My husband is a lover of Speightstown so for his birthday this year I decided we would go for breakfast in the area. Not being familiar with the eating places in the area a quick Google search brought up Island Plates and I decided to give it a try. We were definitely not disappointed and my family will definitely be back perhaps to try lunch next time around in the very near future. There is a quaint quietness to the area and the food and service were excellent - I had the eggs and baked beans, my husband the omelette and my sons had egg and sausage and pancake and sausage. The food is prepared fresh which is definitely a bonus and clearly with attention to detail. Pat (the chef/co-owner) even packed a little something extra in our take away bag as a birthday treat for my husband! :-)Thank you. It was really a pleasure to have met your family.Marie & I are happy that you had such a positive experience with us and that you are already planning your return trip!Enjoy your evening! Good Life is a great choice for those looking for a healthy dinner option while supporting a cool independent business at the same time. The Mediterranean salad and burgers were fresh and full of excellent flavours. Nothing pre-packaged here. The staff were all friendly and happy to explain the menu. Overall a very cheerful place and a perfect choice for vegans. Only downside, the dinner menu is quite a bit more costly than the lunch menu, and offers different items so we were unable to try the wraps we were looking forward to. Next time!

At Pebbles Beach when we were approached by the ‘Head Chef’ of the Jamaica Grill Kitchen. I’m always apprehensive with eating food from a truck without being recommended. So it was with reservations that we agreed to have some food. But the jerk chicken and the fish sandwich were superb. The guy brought it to our sun beds and came back to collect the plates, brilliant service. Would recommend to anyone.

The Tides

Reviewed By intlfoodtrvl

We were walking along the main road of Holetown when we unexpectedly came upon The Tides, a restaurant for which I had heard rave reviews.  I said as much to my boyfriend, and we checked out the lunch menu that was displayed outside.  The 2-course special sounded enticing, and he suggested we try it, to which I eagerly agreed.  The restaurant was stunning with its views of the boardwalk and ocean; its blue, sea-themed decor; and its showcasing of local artwork available for purchase.  Apparently we had arrived a few moments before they were fully prepared for lunch service, so we grabbed seats at the bar.  While my boyfriend ordered the more traditional Mango Mojito, which was served in a very tall glass, I opted for something a bit more unusual.  The Peppery Passion included vodka, passion fruit, tabasco, cucumber, and a fun topping of passion fruit tapioca balls.  My drink brought some heat to the fresh sweetness shared by both of our cocktails.A few sips into our delightful beverages, we were told that our table was available.  While we had the option to sit in the open-air dining room, we opted to plant ourselves in the air conditioning, after a morning of walking in the humidity.  Our assigned table wound up being against the windows with a prime view of the water, where we started by sipping our cocktails and munching on fluffy rolls. We decided to skip the option of having dessert and selected appetizers and entrees as the two courses that would make up our meal.  I ordered the Roast Sweet Potato & Green Lentil Soup, but asked for the jerk-spiced sour cream to be left off.  Despite that omission, the soup was sublime!  The rich and creamy sweet potato broth was packed with green lentils, as well as red onion that had been caramelized in a sweet balsamic jam.  That onion marmalade really enhanced the soup and made it truly unique to the region.  My companion loved his Five Spiced Crispy Chicken Wings, which included 3 saucy wings served over a noodle salad that had been blended with sesame seeds and an Asian barbecue sauce.  As if our experience could not get any better, our main dishes were incredible!  My Lamb Shank was one of, if not THE, best pieces of that meat variety that I had ever eaten.  The lamb literally fell off the bone, effortlessly undressing with only the slightest tap from my knife.  The shank had been braised in a light coconut curry and was served over shredded bok choy, jasmine rice, and a plantain and raisin chutney that sweetly tied all of the other ingredients together.  My boyfriend's Chargrilled Chicken and Vegetable Kebab came hanging from a small hook, suspending the lengthy skewer over a side of basmati rice, which he had requested instead of the typically included options of mushroom, fennel, and lemon risotto or raw, pickled rainbow salad.  The kebab came with mushroom and Cajun dipping sauces on the side, with the zesty Cajun one being the more complimentary of the two.  The taunting presentation was no challenge for his hunger, and he quickly removed all of the components from the skewer and proceeded to savor each morsel. The Tides certainly deserved its reputation as one of the best restaurants on the island, if not the world.  Its elegance, service, and culinary executions were top notch.

The guys who served us were sweet and I think tried but if we had known when we ordered there was no shrimp we would have moved on sooner . Nathaniel did give us tickets for a rum punch when we return but not keen on return with paucity of fresh fish choices Thank you for your review and sorry to hear that you were not able to get the fish that you wanted. Unfortunately we did not receive our fish order so were very limited that day. This is not normal for us at all and usually can offer more than 3 different types of fish. We hope that one day you are able to sample our food that has received such great reviews.

Champers Restaurant

We ate here three times during our holiday as we often do, over the years we have been coming to Barbados. We always ask for a waterside table and got put in the middle of the restaurant. We were asked if we would mind waiting for 10 minutes (it ended up as 15) and we were put in what was in our opinion the best table, by the water, in the house. To accompany this we were entertained during our dinner by a tropical lightning storm in the distance. Our starters and my wife’s main course were superb. My main course was rib eye steak of which a quarter was gristle and connective tissue. I pointed this out to the waitress who told me that fat adds to the flavour. I pointed out that I had eaten the fat and the steak and what was on my plate was gristle and connective tissue. She said she would talk to the chef.No one came back to our table after this until I asked for the bill. Now a quandary – do I make a fuss? We wanted to eat here again and not go to The Cliff as the general view of people we met (bar stewards hotel guests etc ) suggested “If you haven’t been, go so you can say you have. If you have eaten there before (and we have lots) don’t bother going again.” So I asked Champers for “our best table” again in two days time and they said yes. On that occasion they served polenta with the duck breast instead of the garlic mash option I ordered. Quickly remedied but it should have been right first time. When they get it right this is an excellent place to eat.
