River Springs Cafe

As I work close to this café I visit fairly regularly for lunch etc and have always found it to be very good. The food is of excellent quality and there are always home made specials options including soup/pie/cakes etc etc. The value for money is also very good and this shows as the place is always bustling compared to other cafes on the industrial estate. In my opinion River Springs have seen a gap on the market and filled that gap very cleverly - the staff are friendly and the menu is varied with each dish being absolutely delicious. The staff are always happy to help out with amendments to the menu like changing the bacon for an extra sausage etc and only charge you if you are trying to swap something for an item of considerably higher value which is a sensible compromise. There is seating inside and also a couple of small tables outside for when the weather is nice. The strapline they use is along the lines of 'An Oasis In The Heart Of Churchfields' and this is a very good description as it really doesn't feel like a café on an estate like the others do. Cannot fault this place - would recommend to everyone.

Having visited nearby Arundells, we were looking for somewhere to have lunch, we choose the Sunday roast, simple no frills, just good home cooked fayre, small wine list, local beer and an unusual cider, Breton, served in a bowl, definitely recommend it. Worth noting they only accept cash, if needed ATM is only 5 minutes away.

The Yard Cafe Salisbury England

I've lived in Salisbury for 25 years and only found this wonderful cafe through a Taste Trail in connection with the International Arts Festival. It's now my favourite place to go for a cup of tea and cake, or a light lunch. Find it up an alleyway off West Street, accessible from Fisherton Road via Dews Street or North Street - look carefully as you can't see the entrance tip you are on top of it! The Yard offers a warm welcome and the best carrot cake I've ever tasted - the icing is kept separately in the fridge so the cake doesn't go sorry and is not sickly sweet - and a rotation of other delicious cakes including the chocolate amaretto cake to die for. I took the family there and we ordered '1 of everything' and cut them into pieces - yum. The cheesy scrambled eggs is a favourite, too. The cafe is also a gallery with lots of small gifts and items, and it's all very original and quirky and characterful. Antique mismatched china cups and saucers, a lovely yard for sitting out in and a fireplace and squishy sofas for the winter. Look out for the teacup tree and Mr Fox in the loo! Cats are unobtrusively around and and the lovely Sadie the dog is friendly (particularly if you have scrambled egg) but always polite.

Britford Farm Shop

Reviewed By Traveler52344708333

I attended a birthday party in the orchard a few weeks ago. There was only one choice of sandwich which were all stale and were placed touching cream scones on the same plate. The scones did not look or taste to a standard I would expect for a large paying party. There was a middle aged member of female staff with grey hair who I found to be incredibly rude, clearing away decorations with guests still present. I would hate to name names on here but did ask at the end and am happy to speak to management if required. I am sorry to say the member of the group who's party it was, was left in tears. However, I have returned for a funeral party at the farm shop since and found the standard to be much more acceptable. The sweet and savoury options were served on separate plates (as to be expected) and the service was dramatically improved. I spoke to one member of staff with brown curly hair and told her how impressed I was, please do pass on the message again! This review is not supposed to be slanderous and would hate to put people off (hence the rating) but I feel it is imperative management are aware of inconsistencies like this so they may be addressed.I look forward to seeing you again soon and enjoying some of the delicious food you serve.Dear Traveler52344708333Thank you for taking time to make a review, I am not in agreement with the content of your review however and dispute many points that you have made thus making it difficult to accurately reply. Reviews are only that of the reviewers perspective and are subjective, comments you have made regarding a member of my staff in a negative manner have bemused me and caused careless distress as I know all my staff to be polite, extremely well mannered and kind therefore do not accept that this is any more than a lack of acceptance of difference.I did have one booking where I mis-made notes at a time of great personal grief and made good the mistake with the customer concerned straight afterwards. I am not sure why it seemed appropriate to raise this error months after (the suspected booking) and find it very hurtful for all parties to raise it now, if the experience was as bad as you say? Given the more recent visit was positive and that our food preparation and methods have not changed the review reads like the excuse to have a dig at someone long after the event which I find very upsetting indeed.I have a telephone in the shop if customers wish to report a problem which rarely happens, I am grateful to say as we serve hundreds of customers a week and every single one is important. As you know the shop you will realise that management is only me.We are all only on this planet for a short length of time, I try my best as do my staff, we are only human.I wish you well .Robert

We enjoyed a good lunch in this restaurant, it's menu is reminiscent of the old style Wimpy Bar and Golden Egg restaurants. I consider this as good thing! The food was appetising and well presented, served swiftly by pleasant staff.A testament to its quality and value is that many of the diners appeared to be regulars. We will no doubt return when next in the city.

Been here before with my dog in the past and have found it very friendly and a great service. But sadly today went in and the owners have changed the experience was terrible we felt that coming in to a cafe and ordering drinks and some lunch was a massive task !!!! There was no one in the place. Anyway got are drinks and got are food 35 mins later. The owner was more concerned about a table booking coming in and could clearly not handle anymore than two customers at once’s. I tried to pay when ordering the food and she the owner could not even work out the till so we couldn’t pay. The food was terrible my wife soup was stone cold and my children’s cheese on toast was a joke !! Even when I went to try and pay again the owner had to get her 12 year old daughter to work the till. I said that it’s quite and how Long have you owned the business just to recive that’s it’s busy today and that you just came in at the right time. Before the auother 4 costumers came in. The business was not busy and was clearly empty I just found that the owner can not handle more than one costumer in the cafe at a time. I would give this business which was a very good model with past owners about 6 mths before closing. Sadly I will not be returning again if I go somewhere to eat I expect to get a service and not feel that we are a effort for someone to do the job and run a business when it’s the service they advertise.Hi Christopher, I am so sorry to hear you had this experience at Monty and Mabel's. We are now under new management (as of 18th May 2019), and I can assure you that you will not have an experience like this again. We have a fantastic new team (some of whom you may recognise from when you enjoyed coming here) and a new menu, and welcome all humans and dogs. I completely understand that you many not want to visit again, but should you do, you will be warmly welcomed. With warm regards,Sam James (new owner).
