Oudtshoorn, the "ostrich capital of the world", is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa, located between the Swartberg mountains to the north and the Outeniqua Mountains to the south. Two ostrich-feather booms, during 1865-1870 and 1900-1914, truly established the settlement. With approximately 60,000 inhabitants, it is the largest town in the Little Karoo region. The town's economy is primarily reliant on the ostrich farming and tourism industries. Oudtshoorn is home to the world's largest ostrich population, with a number of specialized ostrich breeding farms, such as the Safari Show Farm and the Highgate Ostrich Show Farm.

What a disappointment to arrive at this venue at 13:06 to be told by the owner that she’s closing , what is the state of affairs in the Karoo to turn tourists away because you can’t be bothered to run your businessDear FinchattumUnfortunately Rou Karoo was not the "only restaurant in the Karoo that closes for lunch".I am sure that you were aware of the fact that it was indeed a public holiday??Workers Day to be exact! As a courtesy to my WORKERS (who also have families and children), we decided to only work half day - and if you took the time to have a look at our business hours, you would've known that. We closed at 13:00 so at 13:06 we were already packing up.To make a statement like "can’t be bothered to run your business" is not only rude and uncalled for but also Not true. You dear Sir don't know me, because if you did, you would've known that I always go the extra mile for my clients. New or old! You didn't even bother to listen to an explanation.I'm guessing that you got out of bed with the wrong foot and that made you a grumpy old man and a keybord warrior. I see Karoo Pot and Gallery Cafe wasn't spared either. Go figure... 3 places in the Karoo only worthy of a 1 Star. All in one day.Hope your next visit to the Karoo won't be on a public holiday, or where you have to wait 30minutes to get served, or get served oily food from an outdated menu.'Kind' regardsLiandré de Wet044 279 1937

Went for a second visited as I told my husband about this Cafe from a previous visit, what a disappointment, tables standing dirty for long periods of time, slow service, waiter never returned to ask if we maybe wanted to order any food, small cupcake papers everywhere on the floor...we eventually went to pay the bill inside and the 2tables next to ours that was dirty as we arrived was still in the same condition with dirty cups and left over food as when we entered...not a very good image for a cafe at the entrance of a hotel...

The Pizza on sale here, is definitely for the hungry. The large pizza on sale here is a winner for families of 4 or more as they are not only well made and huge, but taste great too! at least 6 persons can be fed off of a single pizza. it is a must for the budget conscious. They have burgers and other fare for the hungry too, so its a must visit.

After exploring the Caves, we decided to have a sit down meal. We ordered the eisbein which was on special. It arrived with an array of fries and salads. The drinks were also reasonably priced. Good for relaxation after the Caves tour before heading back.
