This is a very nice option to spend a lovely afternoon! the staff is amazing a s very friendly, the coffee options are really good, the nicest thing about this coffee shop is that it feels home made, and nowadays that we are surrounded by big coffee companies this is something unique. The hot chocolate is perfect for a rainy afternoon and the white flat for the cold mornings, if you would like a snack you'll have several options like melted cheese sandwiches I recommend the smoke cheese and ham sandwich. For the pets lover this is a friendly coffee shop!

Please take time to find your way round the rather odd one-way system in Arbroath and get to the old part of town where this charming little cafe/restauraunt is situated - the Westport. Lovely Sonia could not have been more helpful, more welcoming or considerate. For a GF Veggie, it was a joy to have such a choice of dishes, and made a good one - Mexican wrap with salads and coleslaw. When it arrived I just sat and smiled at it - the prettiest, most tempting plate of food I'd seen in a long time. Salad leaves enhanced by tiny segments of fresh fig and walnuts, a lightly dressed courgetti/red cabbage/pepper salad, and beautifully tasty well filled wraps - so colourful, fresh and beautifully presented - seemed almost a shame to eat it, but I did and relished every mouthful. Hubby's rogan josh was good too! As were our coffees and traybakes afterwards. Went away with a hug and a wonderful experience of people who truly love food and care about their customers. Only regret is we didn't find it sooner, but if we're ever up that way, we'll surely be back.

Just found Bearpig. Firstly, great to find somewhere open on Sunday in Arbroath. Secondly, the welcome and hospitality was amazing. Thirdly, we ordered a sandwich which was fresh and tasty and it came with a wonderful salad and crisps. (Unlike a previous reviewer I thought it was a great combo of ingredients) On top of that we got a complementary smoothie taster and a bowl of tasty dried pea snacks. The decoration is eclectic and interesting. Highly recommended and we will be going back when in the area.

Smithies Delicatessan

Smithies is a lovely family run deli, the style is very retro with tiles dating back to the start of the 20th century, when the shop was a Lipton's. All the original thistle and shamrock tiles are still there. The shop then went on around 1950 to become d

We went here for lunch on a Saturday with my mum who lives about 15 miles away. We enjoyed a soup, sandwich and toasties, which were all tasty. We also bought a couple of brownies and some chocolate cake to take-away, which were also very good when we had them later in the day.Whilst the food was good and I would go back again if passing by, I probably wouldn't make a point of rushing back to the cafe as a destination. The cafe lacks a bit of 'kerb appeal' in comparison with other cafes / farmshops we've been to, both locally and farther afield. Inside, the interior had a couple of nice full length wall 'murals' but otherwise felt more basic than rustic. We also felt the service could have been a few notches sharper, even allowing for the fact it was a busy lunchtime with few tables empty for more than a few minutes. Our waitress was very pleasant but tables were often left with finished plates for quite a while, she wasn't able to help with a question about the difference of the two cheeses on the menu (and repeated the answer to another diner about 10 unites after we'd asked) and paying at the till seemed to take quite a while. There were plenty of people milling around but it didn't quite seem as orchestrated as it could have been to make things more slick. If you're after a soup, sandwich or toastie, or cakes, there's plenty to choose from, but the menu is more limited for meals, which are listed on a board rather than on the permanent menu. I can understand the reasoning behind this, but it doesn't come across quite as well in my opinion. Finally, we were around £31 for our lunch (three plates, two drinks and a tap water), which I felt was a little expensive given the overall experience. As I say, the food was good, which I suppose is the main thing you look for, but it was a shame other factors weren't up to the same level.Sorry you were so dissapointed with your visit, the bill would have included the cakes you bought too?? The boards as changed daily as we feel printing new menus daily is a waste of paper. The decor is simple and easily maintained and the staff are cheery and happy to help with whatever you ask of them

Tried this hidden gem for lunch on a miserable Saturday. What a lovely place, bright, clean and very welcoming. We went for the soup of the day (parsnip and apple) with a sandwich and coffee and cake to follow. Soup was super hot, as it should be, and delicious. Coffee was also hot, so many places serve it barely warm! Can't fault anything about the place, the food or the service. All 5 star. Will definitely be back soon.
