We made advanced reservations for a Sunday evening and were very pleased that we chose this restaurant. It was a few minutes walk from the train, away from the tourist center of Koeln. We were promptly seated and given a menu with a variety of seasonal and classic Schnitzel dishes. I ordered the pumpkin and my partner ordered the mushroom cream sauce. We both thought they were the best Schnitzel dishes we'd ever had. We don't eat veal, but the pork was delicious and tender. The breading was light and crunchy - almost like a Southern USA cornmeal texture. It was truly heavenly. The portion was incredibly large and we wish we'd shared one - however, it was so delicious we ate a lot more than we thought we would! We definitely would recommend this place and would gladly return when again in Koeln.

We were quite pleased to be able to reserve a large table for 11 only 6 hours before dining. Only negative ... very long waits for drinks and service. However, the place was completely packed at 6:30 pm, in the middle of high season. Food was typical for a Brauhaus - schnitzels, wursts, etc. I was the only one adventurous enough to try “Hummel un Ääd” (Heaven and Earth) - a local favorite, comprising a mixture of fried black pudding with onions, apples and bacon. Not for the faint of heart, certainly. One of the richest tasting dishes I’ve ever had, and I’m not sure I’ll get it again (though I did enjoy it). The local Sünner Kölsch went very well with it - and I’m not a big Kölsch fan. Be aware that beer in Cologne appears to be generally served in 21 cL glasses (not the typical 33 cL), and is on the expensive side. If you’re looking for a classic Cologne culinary experience, this is the place to go.

My wife and I were over nighting in Koln for the first time. A 10 day Rhine river boat trip was starting the next afternoon. We were referred here to Malzmeuhle bya Cologne native, for an authentic German meal and local brewery. It was a hoot.We heard about the long history of the place. The wooden decor, many rooms, andpacked house (mostly locals) was fun. The only table for two was in the kitchen area. The manager was energetic, and friendly, and spoke grand English. And the locallybrewed Kolsch beer was presented promptly and tasty in trays with small steins. Soon packed, we had fun watching the various local entres leave the kitchen by white aprons waiters hustling about and joking. Pigs knuckles, saurbraten. andmany classic German appetizers, and lots of beer. It was the best people watchingplace. The food was simple, hot and tasty. I had a great liver pate, and the porksausage. Reasonably priced, and worth the visit to enjoy this bustling place withcheerful staff. Gut!
