Stopped over to visit the mid Somerset show. Staff very helpful and friendly as soon as I arrived. Booked me a table in the restaurant, which was definitely helpful as it was packed out later, good sign. Local cask ales and produce for drink and food. Very good menu, I had the homemade chicken pie, delicious, a proper short crust pastry pie, not the puff pastry topping ones. Summer berry crumble & custard to finish, lovely! Room nice and clean & comfortable. Had a room at the front which overlooked a busy road, noise didn't bother me as I was very tired. If you think it might bother you might be worth asking for a room at the back. Overall a very pleasant stay. Excellent breakfast!

Once again our Saturday walk draws us to the Prestleigh Inn, with its friendly staff and local clients. Today we had a few drinks and lunch. Lunch was our usual steak, with seasonal veg and chipped potatoes.. absolutely brilliant. Afterwards my wife had a dessert, that looked and tasted the best ever.. we have dined in the Savoy before and this dessert would have been at home there. Top marks, great prices and fantastic people.

Visited The Pickled Inn whilst away in Shepton Mallet for Classic Bike Shows, they were able to seat 8 of us at late notice and were very accomodating. The atmosphere was welcoming as soon as we arrived, we were unsure what to expect but were absolutely blown away. The quality of the handmade food was amazing! No faults with any of our meals. We will definitely be returning when we are back in Shepton Mallet for the Classic Bike Show next feb.

Went for Sunday lunch. Our plates of roast beef arrived depressingly quickly - literally within 5 minutes of ordering, clearly precooked. A lukewarm & overcooked mush of vegetables covered with slices of barely cooked roast beef. The meat was so raw that the gravy ran red with blood - who wants to dip a roast potato into that? Worst of all the beef was uncuttable & therefore barely edible. Our table shook with the effort of four people sawing manically. Service was also so lacklustre & amateurish it became uncomfortable. We’ve been here several times in the past and enjoyed great food in the lovely garden and swift cheerful service. Something has changed since we last came in May 2018. Is it management? Not the place it used to be. This is a destination pub for us and we’ve always been happy to drive an hour. At £13.45 a head, it’s not cheap. We left feeling really fleeced & glad to get out of there. It was a birthday lunch, the experience was such a disappointment that we decided not to ruin the day further by going through the misery of complaining.

Poor menu on sheet of paper. I ordered selection of mushrooms on toast for starters. Presentation awful. Mushrooms looked dehydrated and was tasteless. Toast was so dry that it made me think that this what it must feel like for a dog to eat a Bonio. Returned it to kitchen. Three main meals two had fish and chips. Chips were French fries no bigger than matchsticks. One fish uncooked and returned. Replacement still uncooked and was not eaten. The other fish batter uncooked inside. I had two sausages on a small blob of lumpy mash and a dessertspoon of undrained greens. Would have sent it back but had to take medication. £12.95p I refused to pay for starter and was virtually called a liar by two members of staff that it was returned to kitchen. Paid bill but went to The Strode for a proper lunch, dessert and drinks. Their menu is extensive and varied plus did not cost a bomb. Food was well presented. Tasted amazing.

We telephoned on Tuesday evening and booked a table after trying twice mid-week in the summer only to discover they were fully booked. Having visited we now know why!The above heading says it all, with the benefit of very friendly local residents making the 90 mile drive from Painswick worth while and certainly one to be repeated inspite of the width of the A39 in places which caused the modern wide lorries to stop and wait for a similar vehicle coming the other way. Yet another downside of being part of the EU which we joined originally for TRADE, not GOVERNMENT from Brussels by unelected employees.Apologies for comments on EU but at 83 I am appalled at the lack of knowledge amongst the younger generation on what happened after 1940 and the massive debt owed to the UK by the EU, the main ones being freedom and life.

Unfortunately our experience here on Sunday 1st September 2019 was not a good one, we were looking forward to a hot Sunday Roast- sadly this was not the case- we had roast pork with very undercooked veg, the roast potatoes were not properly roasted- all served with some sort of mustard sauce and no gravy - the pork was so thinly sliced it had the appearance of mass produced box meats - additionally the meals were warm and not hot - at £13.00 per roast it was not good value for money. The front of house staff were very hospitable and helpful with nice décor - but the overall atmosphere was a bit clinical for a lovely looking County Inn on a busy Road - its a shame as we were returning customers from several years ago where we had enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere - however this was not to be on our last visit :(Hello, Thank you for taking time to give feedback. We're very sorry to hear that you weren't completely satisfied with your meal. We pride ourselves on the qualty of our food, and it sounds like your meal didn't meet the high standard that we aim to provide. We have passed your comments onto the kitchen and will be working on all of the issues you raised. We're glad to hear that our staff were professional and friendly, and hope that we get the chance to show you how amazing our food can be with another visit in the future.

This place is excellent not just because of the great pub food but also because of the lovely team that run the place. It's busy so book ahead to make sure you get your table. And if you're looking for a B&B try The Old Stables - a lovely place to stay just a 5-minute walk away.

Came here for lunch the other day. It was busy but our meal arrived remarkably quickly, given the number of people there. Lovely menu. Good food, really tasty and they do smaller portions if you want to cater for people with smaller appetities. Really couldn't fault it. Will be back.

Recommended to us by the owner of a holiday cottage nearby, the recommendation was worth it for the quality of the steak I enjoyed, along with the chips and the accompaniments. Not the biggest range of food on the menu, and if my wife was writing the review she might have given 4* as the lasagna was not to her taste (plenty of mince, but only one layer of pasta, and to her taste a rather thick coating of cheese on top). Portions quite large. Would have liked a "lighter" option for desserts, the three on offer on the day we ate were quite stodgy so we settled for just coffees. Booked a table as it was a Saturday but it wasn't overly busy (in June but before the Glastonbury festival) and our reserved table (along with several others) was in the bar area near the kitchen rather than the restaurant area. Never-the-less quite pleasant surroundings. Service was unhurried - occasionally difficult to get the waitress' attention.
