Cēsis is on the Gauja River valley, and is built on a series of ridges above the river overlooking the woods below. Cēsis was one of the candidate cities for the title of European Capital of Culture 2014 (Riga was the Latvian city that won the title).

Whenever you are on the way to or in CÄsis go there.The budist bowl,fish soup is so amazingly delicious.It's all about when chef loves what he does and it's food.This is my summer hot spot for food experience in Latvia.

This evening we visited the town of CÄsis. This town is extremely charming. We were hungry after a pleasant afternoon of hiking and so we went to this magnificent hamburger restaurant. We entered into this wonderful restaurant through metal gates adorned with vines. We were allowed to choose our table, as we were the first customers. Our waiter spoke perfect English and he translated our menu. We ordered our meals, seated on cushioned benches. Once our meals arrived, marvelous aromas filled the fresh, cool air. One bite into the hamburger, and we were indeed in hamburger heaven. The French fries were delicious, sprinkled with salt and sprigs of rosemary. Some of us ordered hot chocolate...which was rich and amazing. Light rain added to the ambience, and a wonderful sensation of warmth swept through us, despite the cold. All the waiters were eager, kind and friendly. Labu Apetiti!

After many years, we had a date with wife :) Priede was our choice, and it was good. I would not say it was something super exciting or unique, just a good restaurant for dinner. Food was good, location is perfect (very central), atmosphere is relaxed. Prices are rather high. I would come back, but would check other options in CÄsis beforehand.
