We “found” Bar Cilento recently, have been there twice so far, and will certainly go again. The food we have tried — soups, salads, pasta, chicken, desserts, etc. — has been uniformly excellent, and the service has been great. And when they were concerned that we had been neglected by our server (we hadn’t been), the watchful owners asked whether we needed help. A full bar with a great wine list and an upbeat, wekcoming atmosphere round out the picture. A great “find” not far from home!

We had dinner last night with two friends who were celebrating their anniversary. The facility is part of a catering facility. The mountain views are magnificent and we were seated right by a window. They have a wide selection of choices including salads, sandwiches, burgers and entrees. I enjoyed a risotto dish with shrimp and a touch of Cajun spices. I've had better, but this was not bad. The full bar included a good selection of wines and beers. The wait staff was polite but a bit rushy for my taste. One of my dinner companions told the server that we were not in a rush, but the pressure to finish and move on continued throughout the meal. The server knew that one of the couples was celebrating their anniversary, because she wished them a happy anniversary when presenting the check, but did nothing else to acknowledge the occasion - a little ticky-tacky in my book. A decorated plate with a candle would have done it for me.

Attentive bar staff. We both ordered burgers. Literally the worst French fries we've ever had. Soggy, greasy and limp. The burgers are small, but the price is good. Mine was cooked great. My friend ordered medium well and it was raw. When she told the bartender he just ignored her. So she only ate the outside of the burger and had him throw out the rest. Wine by the glass is expensive here compared to the food quality. Won't be back.

The Station Pub and Grub

I had avoided returning here for literally years (on previous experiences the service was just too, too slow) but decided to give it a shot again late one night, as late night options in Bernardsville are limited. Found myself pleasantly surprised. The burgers, salad, coleslaw (your typical pub fare) was great, the service friendly and attentive, and the vibe (this is clearly a local watering hole) upbeat. The only drawbacks are that parking might occasionally be hard to fine, even across the street in the train lot, and, when it is packed it can get loud. Outdoor seating is available. So if you’re looking for a convivial place with good food that’s not too fancy or expensive consider The Station.

My wife and I and two other couples had brunch here on Sunday. We had reservations and they honored them on time. The parking lot isn't paved and it's all gravel. The restaurant itself is very charming, quaint, romantic, and rustic. There's a porch for outdoor dining. High grades for the ambiance. We began with a couple of fresh fruit platters and a breakfast basket. We had to ask for dishes since none were on the table. The fruit platter consisted of fresh blueberries, blackberries, cantaloupe, and grapes. Not a large portion. The breakfast basket consisted of a couple of very small muffins, a couple of croissants, and biscotti. Omelets, blueberry pancakes, and the thick French Toast, were the items of choice at our table. The omelets were popular and didn't have any complaints. The blueberry pancakes consisted of 3 medium/large pancakes stuffed with plenty of blueberries. The thick French Toast was actually thin and it consisted of 6 thin triangles. However, very tasty. They provided 100 % pure maple syrup with the pancakes and French Toast which is always popular with me. As a coffee snob, I would say the coffee was very good. The service was ok but not friendly. It took a long time for our food to come out after we ordered our main dishes (30-35 minutes). When the restaurant filled up we noticed we had to start yelling at the table because it got very loud. Thankfully, we were almost done at that point. Bad acoustics. Bathrooms were clean. Prices were a bit on the high side. It's quality over quantity.

I didn't know quaint little villages like this still existed in suburban New Jersey. A quiet little Railroad Station accommodates passenger trains to NYC so visitors from Manhattan came leave their cars behind and ride right up to the front door of the Stirling. It is no longer a hotel but a neighborhood pub selling short order food & specials. The wooden building in picturesque surroundings is reminiscent of the old West or at least a Jersey of long long ago. I ordered a shaved Prime Rib with cheese sandwich on a club roll. The tasty sandwich contained quality beef for a modest price of $16.95. It came with "home made" potato chips which I did not care for. However, a lot of places are now substituting these chips for fries. They are over cooked and too spicy and my hunch is that they are not "home made" but are all made by the same distributor. Please folks, go back to fries. My wife had a Black Bean Burger which was for Vegans, with chipolte sauce. There were too other guests and our entire lunch with soft drinks only came to $65 for 4 people. The ratio of staff to patrons was high so service was prompt. The Stirling is the perfect spot if you are headed to The Great Swamp National Wildlife Reserve which is a short drive away.

My wife said that the lady could not use the bathroom due to steps leading to the stalls. Not really handicap accessible.
