For my son's 18th birthday, my family visited the Steak and Lobster branch at Heathrow. We had a wonderful time as all our needs were catered for. The atmosphere was relaxed and nice. Special thanks to Henry, Alice and Traite (not sure about the spelling - sorry), who went out of their way to ensure that my younger son, who has multiple allergies (dairy, egg and nuts), could enjoy a meal as everyone else. He was even offered unlimited salad in addition to the unlimited fries. Our steaks and lobsters were cooked to perfection and tasted really delicious. To end the evening Henry and his team surprised the birthday boy with a complimentary dessert board which was a nice touch. We went for a lunch and had Buffalo wings (which was a bit tangy), Red Iron Beef Burger (itâs quite heavy and full filling. This item is a bit pricey) and Grilled Steak Sandwich (very good tastes and value for money items). All the items come with house fries which is good as well. To call the Wonder Café part of the British 'Greasy Spoon' brigade, is to denigrate a brilliant example of a classic catering genre. Sure, they fry stuff, but what's wrong with that? Any day now some medic will assure us that smoking cigarettes has benefits unrecorded to date (can't wait). Think I'm joking? Look how dairy products fly in and out of the lists of proscribed foods. 'Healthy' smoothies? No such thing....today. Just wait awhile.Anyway, none of these items have anything to do with this brilliant eaterie in the outskirts of Uxbridge on an unprepossessing road close to 'orrible Hayes. It supplies everything that your average working male Brit (and, like this one, long retired, somewhat crushed by Life, males too) desires in an all-day breakfast establishment. Starting with a high degree of un PC conversation with the order taker, who applies the moniker 'sweetie' to every punter, be they wrinkled or raddled, tattooed or just tatty. Any idea how such a greeting adds joy to the existence of your average male, especially one who has not been granted that title since 1979? The answer is 'deep', as Stanley Unwin would have said (you have to be over 60 to understand that reference). Sure, the furniture & fittings in this place are workaday (why not? They serve lots of workers, after all), but the housekeeping is immaculate, the supply of condiments is plentiful and unrestricted and the cutlery is spotless (as are the toilet facilities outside). Napkins require no begging (note well, Starbucks and Costa).But the best has yet to come: within a few minutes of taking a hot beverage to an empty space, a plate of fragrant beauty appears, holding veggie sausages, hash browns, beans and two fried eggs, each skillfully cooked and with not an iota of grease in sight. Even that experience is topped by the bargain cost: £5.70, about the charge for two miserable flat whites in any of the coffee chains which abound in High Streets throughout the Queendom.Stand on me, in this establishment, everything is fresh, from the cheerful banter to the wholesome ingredients. It's truly a Wonder how they manage it for the price, but more power to the chief skillet wielder and please keep breathing in and out until I can make my next visit. You've made an ageing Brit a happy eater (and wouldn't that be a great name for a chain of roadside restaurants?).

We had VIP access to the lounge in the hotel but we wanted to watch the football & have a few drinks in this bar first, unfortunately there was a very large rowdy group of men that had been & still were fighting in the bar area, there was some doormen keeping an eye on things, we decided to sit in the restaurant area instead but weâre quickly told by a member of staff we could only sit here if we were planing to eat, the restaurant was fairly quiet, we said weâd finish our drinks & leave shortly.
