I personally love the atmosphere of rustic noisy pub restaurants. I ordered the fish sandwich and it was great. Most of my friends got pizza and it also looked delicious. The prices were pretty good and there were plenty of vegetarian options as well! Service was a bit slow but we were also there at the peak of dinnertime. We had a group of 8 and all of our food came out at different times, but it wasn't a huge deal to us. If I'm ever in South Bend again I will definitely return!

We stopped by South Bend on our way to Illinois from New York because we were hoping to see Mayor Pete and visit the city he has spoken/written about. We knew we had to stop at Peggs. We are glad that we did. We came into the restaurant close to closing, but they were so accommodating and not at all in a rush to get us out. We ordered a variety of items among us -- breakfast, a burger, and a salad. Everything was great! They are super friendly and also make good coffee:) We also got a Pete 2020 t-shirt as well.

Lunched here with my husband and daughter - about 15 minutes after they opened. Place was largely empty. Ordered OâRourkeâs burger (which was very good), a Reuben, and Bangers and Mash (no mash - it was potato chunks). My daughter liked the bangers and mash - although I know I would have been disappointed. It took a while for our food to come - but everyone was pleased. Sodas are large. Service was good. Was just enough food - not tons of fries - but they were good.We are glad to hear you enjoyed our O'Rourke's Burger! We apologize for the long wait for your food. We met a friend here for lunch and had a wonderful time. Being aficionados of Victorian architecture, seeing again the interiors of this magnificent structure was a little bit of heaven. The woodwork is a testament to a time when real craftsmanship was honored and appreciated. Though this style of home is not as in vogue as several decades ago; it still is something to behold. Our server, Jani, was friendly and attentive. The prime rib and duck entrees were both flavorful and delicious. The pretzel sandwich was also very tasty. The chocolate torte was a wonderfully indulgent ending to a very enjoyable dining experience. It's been several years since our last visit here; we're sorry we took so long to return. This visit was a satisfying treat for all our senses.

We went to Carriage House last night for a light repast. We ordered the soup du jour and appetizers and a bottle of wine. The food, the service, the atmosphere was all wonderful. Looking forward to coming back & having their special French themed dinner.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn at Saint Mary's and was referred to the restaurant next door. The menu was decidedly different with not a whole lot of options. We went for the tomato grilled cheese sandwich, spiked tomato soup, and a bib salad. The grilled cheese was excellent and I can't say enough about the spiked tomato soup. The salad was good, as well. Husband had crab cakes and the tomato soup. He liked the soup a lot and said the crab cakes were the best he's ever had.We enjoyed our dinners so much, we returned the next night.Diane-Thanks for the great review! We arrived at the Crooked Ewe and found the parking lot to be full. We drove to the other side of the building and there was a small parking lot that appeared to be an employee lot with a wood fired smoker out back. We left, thinking we'd find another place to eat, however when we got to the stoplight, we noticed a parking lot for another business with people appearing to walk to the restaurant. Upon entering the parking lot, there were signs indicating this was the Ewe overflow parking. We got in the restaurant and it was not full as the lot would have indicated. We were waited on quickly and had drinks within minutes. We ordered the hushpuppies as an appetizer and I had the gyro and my wife the arepa. The hushpuppies are amazing. Much different flavor than we expected. These aren't your normal hushpuppies. We absolutely loved them though. My gyro came on a homemade pita what was phenomenal. The flavors were just fantastic with the cucumber kimchi and the pickled red onion. My wife loved her arepa equally as well. Our waitress was back for refills in a timely manner and with the check at the end of the meal as well. The atmosphere was wonderful with a beautiful view of the river outside the back of the restaurant. For a couples date night, it was a hit with my wife. We will definitely be going back. If the lot is full, go back to the corner and park there!

The interior of this long ago Bank Building is beautiful, so well done with seamless remodeling. The greatest treats though were the service and the food. The meals are a bit on the pricier side for South Bend, Indiana HOWEVER they are an exceptional VALUE . I had fresh Norwegian trout (not frozen), mussels in an incredible smoky bacon & corn broth that were a true delight to experience. I had a small piece of my trout, cold , for breakfast just now. (it was just too good to leave behind) OH MY, it was again a true taste delight!! Cesar, our waitperson, in answering my query about the origins of the building , finished with "and now it's the best restaurant in S. Bend". I would add: BEST restaurant in any direction , 90 miles from S. Bend.We love that you enjoyed your dining experience with us at Cafe Navarre. Probably the best that anyone could ask for in South Bend. Everything is done well. The staff is by far the most professional around, and if you are looking to impress someone you won't do any better for a hundred miles in any direction. It's an Epicurean haven, and you won't be disappointed as long as you have the coin. Also, get the grown up milk shake for dessert. Thank me later.
