Went here on a recommendation from friends and we really enjoyed it. My husband and I shared the Grilled Seafood Platter for $24.99 (it came with a large crab cake, your choice of fish (we picked Mahi Mahi, shrimp and scallops and had it blackened. There was plenty to share and we selected a side of coleslaw and sweet potato fries. The coleslaw was lacking flavor but I mixed it in with a side salad I had ordered and it was fine when mixed together. We didn't get a chance to try the homemade desserts but they looked really good. Next time we'll take a piece of cake to go, as my friend later told me they are amazing.

I want to say that I have dined at Cress on several different occasions, dating back to when they were available as a "regular" reservation restaurant. And I have tried on several occasions to attend a dinner under their new format, and I finally managed to work out a ticket for 1 of their regional specialty dinners (these sell out very quickly, and to be honest the online system is a bit of a pain). Unfortunately, it fell well short of the quality and hospitality I had experienced there before. It started with the "welcome" - or should I say the "non-welcome". I've had friendlier greetings from the breakfast hostess at the Hampton Inn. Essentially, guests have to wait outside on the sidewalk until the restaurant is ready for the seating time. Then the doors are opened and the server just walks away quickly like she is running from a mob - which is kind of appropriate. Everyone bum rushes the hostess stand, where the only thing said was "you need to get in a line" and then your name is checked off a roster and you are invited (or was it instructed?) to take a seat wherever you can find an opening. No "hello, thanks for coming, great to see you...", OK, they're trying to be efficient, but this coldness sadly set the stage for the whole meal. After you are seated, the server came around and offered water and drinks. Included in the meal was either 2 glasses of wine or 2 glasses of beer. The menu did not list the beers. When asked, the server was clueless on what the beer offering was. Incidentally, she was the only dedicated server (I believe the chef's wife assisted with drinks and serving as well). And about those drinks...this is NOT a wine tasting. The wines (both value wines, nothing exceptional or interesting) were measured with meticulous precision (5.99 oz at the most) and the beer was also measured - 500 ml at most. There was no explanation of why that particular pairing was chosen, or any information whatsoever on the beer. Starters are served buffet style at the bar - an announcement is made that you can now come up to the bar and get your starter. Mind you, this is after you are seated, and it's a small bar - so 24 people try to line up AGAIN (this now makes 3 times in the first 30 minutes of dinner we've all had to shuffle through a queue together). There are supposed to be 2 items on the starter board, only 1 is available when the announcement is first made to line up (it eventually made it out of the kitchen so there was a round 2 of the bar rush). Again, no explanation on the source, method of cooking, or background on why these apps are served. Line up, get your food, sit down and eat it, and pray there are no more queues involved in what I expected to be a relaxing and informative evening. OK, things did improve a little bit moving forward - the soup and both mains were good, although not especially memorable, and the service was prompt and efficient - there's that word again. Dishes were simply placed in front of you with no explanation or even mention of what was on the plate. At the end of the meal...people just kind of slowly slinked away after the dessert course. Again, no acknowledgement from staff or Chef, no "thanks for coming, hope you enjoyed it, hope to see you again..."....just...kind of like.. "go away". I almost expected someone to just turn the lights up and announce it's time to get out. To better explain, this is a ticketed event, and there were only about 24 total diners. So, my expectations were a little higher. I anticipated a more friendly and communal dining experience, where the chef and sommelier would make it more like a family dinner. Maybe the 1st seating is better...but I doubt it. I can't imagine it was more relaxing knowing they had to be out before a hard finish time. I just wanted to say that I LOVE Cress! I have taken guests there many times and always considered it a hidden gem (once hosted a foodie stock broker from NYC who said it was 1 of the best meals he had in years) but based on my experience I cant recommend the new format. I don't wish to hurt anyone's feelings, and maybe it was just an off night, but I honestly would not recommend the current format. Please try to improve the hospitality, make it more fun, informative, and convivial - have a party! That's what makes it fun to share food in a group. Cress is a great addition to the community and Hari IS a special gem in the central florida dining scene, I just didn't get the joy on this night. There is a place at the table of everyone; Octoberfest @Cress was created for our Affordable Dining Series, where the cost was $6.50/course, $7/6oz glasses of wine. Our usual reservations are arranged for 24 people/night from 5:30pm - 8:30pm with an average price of $115/person, inclusive of our wine pairing and gratuity. We are small, and unfortunately, cannot provide our intimate fine dining Chef's Tables at the price you paid. At Cress, we believe that diversity makes us stronger, so we created a German dinner with traditional German wording. Gosh, it was difficult for ALL staff to pronounce the Courses and the names of the Wines & Beers. Even though we did not pronounce our German words correctly, it does not mean our staff did not know the menu in detail. I had spoken to your table several times, and you never relayed any of your concerns to me. I was disheartened to see how your table was making a jest of our server's Hispanic heritage. Sadly, she became embarrassed, uncomfortable, and did not want to chat - we supported her silent service for the rest of the evening because we are committed to creating an affirming and safe environment in our restaurant for all. The abusive and cruel nature you displayed to our Team is reflected in this review. It is hard for us to believe you "LOVE Cress!", as you never called or emailed us and never wrote a previous positive review. Furthermore, because we have pledged to support each other, our customers, workers, and regional communities -- we could not relax and have a "have a party" in the dining room with the guests. Instead, we flipped the kitchen to immediately prepare for the following day's impromptu Hurricane Florence Food Bank Relief. We raised enough money for 50,000 meals. It was a shame you did not like the event, but we will continue to believe there is a place at the table for everyone. Jenneffer Pulapaka - General Manager & Co-Owner

This is a very comfortable restaurant in a nice little town. It is known for its home style cooking and great desserts. Some people complain that even though it is a buffet, you can only select one entree. However, the serving size of that entree is more than sufficient to fill you up! It just means you have to make a choice instead of taking some of everything and leaving a lot on your plate. My favorite thing there is their pot pie, but I went with a group of 10, and everyone thought what they ordered was delicious, so I’d say you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose. And, yes, their desserts do look amazing, but you’ll have to get it to go as you’ll be too stuffed to eat it there

While their food is amazing, they are extremely inconsistent with their operating hours. Its happened already twice. Business supposed to close at 9pm. First time called for a to go order at 8:30pm. Was told I had to order before 8:30pm. Second time, called for a pick up at 8:20pm with a closing time of 9pm. Was told that they were not taking orders because they were slow. Horrible customer service to put such lame excuse and not respect their advertised operating hours. Pretty much they close at whatever time pleases them so watch out for that.

All in all a good choice.
