Allegro Ristorante

Reviewed By Jomled - New York City, New York

My family (adults ranging from 21 - 56) ate here last month. I really want to love this place but I can't get there. The Venue is just great old storefront exposed brick - just a fantastic feel. We have tried Allegro twice in the past and now this is our third visit. Southern Vermont has a real void in top notch Italian eateries most I would describe as average. Allegro fits that description.

Several of us ordered salads which were all outstanding. The spinach salad in particular was memorable. The entrees we ordered included Arctic Char, Risotto, Pappardelle with mushroom sauce, and the Beef short ribs. The reviews around the table were all about the same. The food was catering hall like. Nothing bad, all real safe, no jump off the plate flavor. We got the feeling it was a short order cook reading the recipe off a card in the kitchen. The best way to describe the food is that it's not bad for Southern Vermont but it's still average compared to other Italian restaurants.

I would probably go back if the logistics worked out, but Allegro is not one of my top recommendations. Try it if you are having a craving. Order the spinach salad !!!

Yes, pull over here. It's worth the 10min detour if you're headed into Southern VT (and they have 2 restrooms). Ample parking.
Pumpkin butter, bourbon maple syrup, IPAs, cider donuts, fresh fudge, and flavorful apples and whoopie pies beckon you. Lots of little VT tchotchkes, pumpkins and autumnal treasures to choose from. Be nice to the cashiers- just sayin' - trust me on this. I had a great experience and am throughly enjoying the pumpkin butter by the spoonfuls.

What a surprise when I discovered Bakkerij Krijnen in its unassuming spot on the outskirts of Bennington. Bread, pastries, cakes, sandwiches - love them all. This weekend I bought sourdough bread, pastries and croissants for out-of-town guests. They were such a hit that we returned on Sunday so that they could schlep the croissants back to NYC with them. My spouse had just returned from a work trip to Paris and Vienna and swears that BK is as good - or better - than either city offered.

I highly recommend that you stop here for breakfast or lunch - there are a few charming little tables to sit at and watch all the bakery action from.

I had heard about it and read about it but never made it there until today. It is very convenient for anyone visiting the hospital or nearby medical facilities. I went there today with two younger family members. The sandwich and salad selections were so delicious sounding it was hard to decide. There is no alcohol but great juice, soda and tea/coffee selections. It is tucked in behind what used to be the Paradise Restaurant and it is near the current Paradise Motel. Outdoor tables are available depending on weather where pets are allowed. All in all a great find.

A women at the Will Moses Gallery recommended Kevin's and we were so glad she did. We were the only strangers in the place. The restaurant is small and was busy on the Tuesday afternoon we were there. We both had burgers that were big and juicy...I almost never order a burger out because I'm usually disappointed, but not here.
OMG it was great. I of course ordered sweet potato fries which were also very good.
There was one waitress on, so she was busy, socializing too, but service was pretty quick.
We will return when in the area.

I used to come here over 10 years ago when my mother lived here and used to meet her friends here once a week. Very little has changed, great coffee, relaxed atmosphere and wonderful baked goods. I really appreciated the home made sour dough breads...MoreThough we're newer owners, we love how long the Cafe has been around and this is the reason why. Please ask for either Brian or Maeve when you stop in next time so we can say hello in person!

This was our second visit to Bennington and our second visit to Bennington Station. We will be back whenever possible. Last summer we stopped for dinner on a very crowded Saturday night and enjoyed a delicious dinner in the sunroom. My husband raved about the clams casino and the perfectly rare prime rib. I had the crab cake appetizer (huge!) and a delicious filet of sole. This time we joined family there at Thanksgiving for an excellent Turkey dinner. In spite of the crowds service was friendly, eficient and never made us feel rushed. The huge salad bar which is included with all dinners every night was always fresh and frequently replenished. This is a popular place wilth locals as well as visitors, so reservations are recommended.

Madison Brewing Co. Brew Pub & Restaurant

The Madison family has deep roots in the Bennington, Vermont. As locals growing up and living in the area, the Madison's have deep ties to the community and in the early 1990's the family decided to purchase what was then a burned out storefront in Bennington's historic downtown, and convert it into the area's first brew pub. "My brother Mark was part of the inspiration" says co-owner Mel Madison. "He become passionate about brewing beer as a hobby... And that let us to the idea of starting a brew pub." From those humble beginnings, the brewery has developed six regular brews plus a seasonal brew. To complement the brewing is the lunch and dinner offerings as well as Madison's own home-made chips - a favorite at the bar or anyplace. Now into its second decade of operation, the brew pub has become a Bennington fixture and a favorite amongst the locals. We encourage you to stop in and discover for yourself everything Madison's Brewing Company has to offer!
