West Lodge Park Hotel is a beautiful country house hotel set in 35 acres of grounds on the edge of North London. It has been owned and run by three generations of the Beale family since 1945 and now has 59 bedrooms, the Mary Beale Restaurant and Terrace Bar, 8 stunning banqueting rooms, and plentiful free parking. The hotel is located just a mile from Cockfosters Tube station where there is a large car park and frequent trains on the Piccadilly Line to all the sights of central London. Around the hotel is the magnificent Beale Arboretum, with over 800 species of trees from around the world, 2 national collections of hornbeams and swamp cypresses, and plentiful hard paths and interpretive signage. The hotel is also home to the Edward Beale collection of Old master paintings, most of which have been painted by the ancestor of the family, Mary Beale, who was Britain's first professional woman artist, painting at the time of Charles II. It would be a pleasure to welcome you to this beautiful hotel. Andrew BealeManaging DirectorBeales Hotels

Disappointed ?

We have just stayed here for 2 nights for a family party. This hotel is up to 4 star standards. Our bed was a double and not king size. The bathhadchipped enamel in it, the shower was cold as the temperature control did not work. The room was very tired looking. We sat in the outside terrace for drinks before dinner and waited 30 minutes before anyone came to serve us, I ordered Rose wine and was initially given white wine, this was then changed. Some people got up and left as they were fed up of waiting. My husbands main course was not as listed on the menu (totally different veg). The cocktails were the worst I have ever had, the Mojito was awful, fat too sweet so I tried a Pimms, tasted like lemonade with fruit in. On to breakfast this morning, asked for coffee and after a long wait we were given a jug of hot water. Later asked for more coffee, gave up waiting in the end and had to go to the bar to get one. This place is not cheap. So all in all after looking forward to a relaxing weekend, we were left feeling very disappointed.

Very nice stay

The room was clean and large enough for 3 of us and our luggage. Check-in was easy and friendly. The room was on the ground floor at the back of the hotel, so was easy to get to. In a great location as well. Walking distance to train station, high street, etc. Because it was warm weather, we needed to keep our windows open, which posed two problems: first was noise in the morning from the restaurant as well as the other guests leaving early. Second was that the courtyard seemed to be used for a smoking area, so the smoke came in the room. Finally, to try to plug in a blow dryer or find a place to put on make-up was next to impossible. Very few outlets, none near a mirror, poor lighting in the bathroom where the mirror was. It was a huge hassle.

3 of us met up off the beaten track for dinner, been 18 months and we like meat, vegan or vegetarian does does not work, so we knew we were in for a good menu choice. Yes it’s 15% overpriced for a place off the beaten track, but it has good vibes, the young lad waiter was very personable and polite, look like he had been fighting but he said he was a ground worker during the day! The food was 5* Really good tuna Tatar, needed some crackers or crunch to go with it, my well made and very well seasoned. The truffle beef “balls” were amazing and scollops not bad. The main meal was burgers Mac n cheese both ways which was amazing. Burgers cooked to perfection and the French fries although at £8 outrageous they were hot fresh and tasty. At least 15% over priced so £60 a head, starter, main, side, drinks and 1 desert between 3 inc a small tip.

AVOID THIS PROPERTY

AVOID THIS PROPERTY!! If I could give this property 0 Stars I would. They refused to check my guest in without me present. I drove for an hour to the property to be told when I was 10 minutes away the person checking me in told me he had somewhere else to be. He then proceeded to cancel my booking and left my guest and 2 young children stranded. On top of cancelling my booking they have still not refunded me after 20 days. Awful service!
