This is a buffet type restaurant serving a mix of Chinese, Japanese, Thai and European food. There's a wide variety to choose from. One can make his own mix of meat, fish and vegetables and have it prepared by a chef behind a counter. Likewise there is a good selection of fruits, ice-creams, cakes, etc. Do not expect a romantic place with lots of attention given to details. It's rather a fun place to go with friends, family and kids. Enjoy a wide a fairly reasonable price.

We wanted a cheap team night out one evening, as the cost of dining in Switzerland can sometimes be prohibitive. We chose to cross the border to Lorrach and visit Ginza one Thursday evening. It's not aesthetically pleasing, and a little bit distractive to have a widescreen tv on full blast, but the place was lively and popular. There is a sushi buffet, Chinese starters, and a regular main course Chinese buffet. All were perfectly adequate and refilled regularly so were hot and fresh. It was as good as any busy Chinese buffet restaurant I've visited in the UK. The teppanyaki was varied but only really suitable for meat eaters due to way it was cooked. I would recommend checking the fish to ensure it's fully defrosted before getting it cooked. The counter was busy but you left a table clip on your plate and the waiter brought it over.Dessert was a little strange, smarties, ice-cream etc. But you don't really go to a Chinese restaurant for dessert, do you??With a variety of beers, buffet plate for 10 and a variety of Asian spirits, the bill came to €220. We were all stuffed, we all enjoyed and we'll definitely be back.

Oishii Sushi & Grill

The deal is for 14.90€ per person order 5 dishes each up to 10 times. So for anyone with an insatiable appetite or a tapeworm its a brilliant deal. Whilst it is all Japanese food it lacks some of the finer points of Japanese cuisine but that's not really the point. Place your order using the touch pad. For what you get it is a good deal. The food comes fast as furiously - within less than 5 minutes per round dishes start appearing. Its not the highest quality but as said the'r not the point here. There are supplements for some items such as sashimi. Drinks are extra.. A really efficient system. Order immediately or signal you are ready to pay using the touch pad.

Japanisches Restaurant Fukuya

Having struggled to find a decent Japanese restaurant in the Basel are for the past few years, we were hesitant about trying Fukuya, which was previously a Chinese restaurant named Good Friend (one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area). The "all-you-can-eat" concept was also somewhat worrying. But it actually turned out to be pretty good - far better than several more expensive places in Basel. Oddly enough, the owners are the same ones that ran the Chinese restaurant - they expained that Chinese wasn't very popular in Lorrach so they changed the concept to Japanese. Anyway, once you get used to the tablet-based electronic ordering system, try everything... in particular we liked the grilled scallop and the hot and sour soup. The sushi is as good as it gets in this part of the world....

Cheap food, lots of quantity, but not tasteful unfortunately. Buffet system. Good table service. Large restaurant. Very warm inside, no ventilation, a bit suffocating during winter. Got a bit sick of the warm air. Had to leave for fresh air. Good parking area free of charge. If you have a big family to feed is the place to go!
