My favourite for many years now: unsurpassed Wiener Schnitzelmade from proper veal, with fantastic Bratkartoffel and a fresh salad. Excellent salad with fresh Pfifferlinge, too! Good, well selected wines from the region - and all that in a lovely traditional Schwarzwaldhaus or outside in the beautiful small Biergarten surrounded by flowers. It comes with very friendly service, too. That's why we come back over and over again. Thank you!

Ducked in here for a lunch and avoided a rainstorm and were not disappointed. Service was delightful and very accommodating. Delicious mixed salads and huge children’s plates of wurst and chicken. Adults had delicious venison and noodles, potato pancakes topped with eggs (daily special) and goulash soup. No room for dessert but Black Forest cake looked amazing

We stayed a few days in Hotel Alemannenhof on half board basis.Breakfast is great - excellent quality and wide variety - good service even though often a lot of people ...Dinner was mixed feeling - quality of food is good although very sweet. For €50 per person one could expect a bit finer prepared food. Service during dinner seemed to struggle a bit, although always friendly and helpful - but sometimes it took a long time before food and drinks were served.

Since reviewing Bierhaeusle two years ago, we've visited a few times. It has been invariably excellent. Back in the area for the northern summer and made it here as quickly as possible. We weren't disappointed. The food, once again was delicious. The menu is not broad, but what they do is great. Very fair prices, friendly owners, food is great, wine is good and fairly priced .... I'm not sure what else you can ask for. Eat here. Thank you so much, we are very happy that you returned and were not disappointed, all the best wishes for you and perhaps see you again one day;))))

Decided to treat ourselves to a lovely meal in our stay in Hinterzarten, since Mr. Weather continued to send rain to curtail our hiking dreams. Made a reservation, slogged back to our hotel and cleaned up. This IS a very nice restaurant, after all.We and 3 other tables had the entire (and large) restaurant to ourselves. So, indoor voices worked well - too well. No music, almost whispering to no conversation dampened our enjoyment. Luckily, a vivaciously cheerful man at a table across the room engaged another table in normally loud conversation, complete with a fair amount of laughter. Whew! Thank you. Everyone relaxed, including the waitstaff.OK, THAT solved. Now, concentrate on eating and drinking. Bottle of red Spanish wine, since we are too cold to drink white. Lovely, poured perfectly, and left where we could refill our glasses at our own pace. Thank heaves. Nothing worse than seeing your wine, sitting open on a table NOT IN YOUR REACH. Just say "no". And, a bottle of Vittel water for a mere 8 euros. Hinterzarten restaurants are now requiring that diners purchase water, instead of providing a bottle of tap water. Crazy, French water in a German mountain town with springs and rivers.Began with a market salad, served with 2 plates for splitting. The salad was fresh, lovely to look at and lovely to eat, and enough us both. Good beginning, tongues happy from good wine and from salad fresh and dressed tasty. For our mains, a special was the baerlauch risotto. Baerlauch, a wild garlic, is one of the glories of German springtime. The green shoots, in early spring, have a subtle garlic taste that is fairly addicting. A risotto with this? Yes, please. And, it was almost perfectly cooked. Once I slowed down my hunger, in about 4-5 minutes, it WAS cooked perfectly, with that enigmatic garlic taste. We ate every bite.Except, wait: I didn't order that. Husband did. Because I ordered the kalbsleber: calf liver, which I truly, truly love. It was worth the ordering. You know how nasty overcooked liver is - crumbly, dry, awful. This was cooked just enough, with a light sauce that complimented the liver and did not take front stage. Potatoes, on the side, also cooked that just so good to eat German way. Um, pretty happy.Dessert? Of course, as the food had been just enough and not super-sized. So, we still have that space waiting for the final little sweetie. It is strawberry time, so , of course, a bowl of Baden strawberries. Just right. Now, the reason for the 4-star and not 5-star (ok, circle) rating. A very expensively dressed woman in her 80's (we're guessing), sat across another wall, in a table for 2, by herself, eating dinner. Unfortunately, she had her dog with her. Sitting on a CHAIR, next to her, not on the floor - as was the other dog in the restaurant, and in every other German restaurant we have ever been. On the chair, where the next diner unknowingly would be sitting. And, she was feeding him, admittedly daintily, from her plate. He was quiet, she was quiet. Well-behaved, except his butt (sorry) was on the chair, as he was fed directly from her plate/fork/hand. We think this is a serious misstep by this restaurant, but then, we were only there for the evening's lovely meal, and not staying at the expensive hotel to which this restaurant is attached.Absolutely would eat here again (the dog was not in the kitchen). It is beautiful, with, for us, wonderfully prepared food. Delicately recommend quiet music, if the restaurant is not very busy. It can be turned off if there are enough diners to fill the dead space!Dear Homelessx2,even though your visit lies in the past of rainy July, we do not want to miss the opportunity and thank you for your detailed and vivacious review. The wellbeing of all our guests is top priority for us and we are therefore pleased to read that we were able to provide a great dinner experience for you and your husband. We are happy to note that you relished every part of your meal, especially the Bärlauch Risotto and Kalbsleber. The use of regional products (Vittel excluded) is of great importance to us and our menu is varied by season to complete the Black Forest experience all year round. As for the occurance with the dog at another table, please accept our apologies. We are dog-friendly, but will actively ensure that they remain not on the chairs but on the floor in our restaurant. Additionally to the soft, perhaps slightly too quiet background music playing in our restaurant, we offer live music, except during the summer months, in our Leo Lounge Bar.We look forward to welcoming you again and hope to fulfil your expectations at least the same, if not better!Thank you again for your feedback.Sincerely,Hajo LaserGuest Relation Manager

Schwarzwaldhof

Ah, pride goeth before - well, you know. Staying in Hinterzarten for the week, we headed here for our first night's evening meal, as the good Italian restaurant was closed. We and apparently everyone else in Hinterzarten went to the Schwarzwaldhof for dinner that night. It was slammingly busy. We were seated by a very harried waitress who breathed a sigh of relief when we spoke German to her. We ordered a bottle of wine, and then, ordered the pork medallions with frites, and I ordered just a side salad and a serving of white spargel, since it was the season. The restaurant was very loud and the waitress and we were leaning in to be heard. She left, and a bit later a different waitress came and said, in English, " We think this is too much food." Oh. OK. She said," You have ordered pork medallions and salads and 2 orders of asparagus." NO. We cancelled one salad and one order of asparagus. But, when dinner came, it was TWO pork medallion meals, with enough french fries to feed 6 people. 2 side salads. 1 LARGE dinner salad. And, of course, the side order of asparagus. We ate what we could and left the rest. What a waste and what an experience in 2 languages! Beware of ordering when you cannot hear (and speak, apparently) well. Pretty funny. But, we were entertained by one long table complete with a diner who whipped out his harmonica and entertained the entire restaurant.Visit number 2 came a number of days later, and went AS IT SHOULD. First, the restaurant was only busy, the noise level was just fine, all indoor voices, and we double checked our order with the english-speaking waitress who laughed when she saw us. (Humility is a virtue, I suppose) We ordered a lovely pinot blanc/chardonnayand the spargelmenu with poached fish and a small salad. No over ordering this time. Whew! Terrrific meal, good ambiance, though no harmonica.Very nice German restaurant, with a good kitchen, and staff that can laugh, once they are not screamingly busy!

This restaurant is off the main roads, on a green hill, which makes its surrounding area very relaxing and beautiful in spring time.Heiligenbrunnen mean "Holy fountain" and there is one in the restaurants open yard. The restaurant itself is inside what used to be a church, with some of the relics still inside. We came here especially after we've seen the reviews here - and I can say the food is good, but not great, for example, I had a Goulash soup that was very very salty, the Schnitzel was OK. The desserts were much better. If you're afraid of dogs or cats take heed because the house roam free in the restaurant, but my children liked that a lot.Good visit if you have the time, but not a culinary must.
