Wonderful resort with patios overlooking the national park.

Good food, a good pool, good common areas, helpful concierge/manager, friendly service, peaceful baboons, and a fantastic view from both the residence and the common areas. What's not to like? We originally flew down from Addis for a Saturday night break. This hotel and Arba Minch generally were nice, and we extended our stay to three nights. The manager helpfully lined up 4x4s for us on each day, to go see the major sites of Arba Minch and the park. Hotels everywhere seem to be in "recovery mode" in February of 2022, hiring staff after the lost years of 2020/2021. The Emerald Resort is no exception; as they ramp up housekeeping and maintenance staff, some small adjustments to the rooms might be in order. Once when there was.a large group having dinner I wished they could add some staff in the kitchen, etc. But I expect all that will happen. Meanwhile the view from the room makes up for a lot. It's in the top 5% of hotel views, if not the top 1%. The "rooms" are actually adjacent bungalows, or at least, they seem to all have patios out back. A great place to hang out at sunrise or sunset. There seemed to be a small baboon troop outside our room most days; they aren't shy but they aren't aggressive. If you cant get a park view room, the view from the very large common areas is fabulous as well. On the whole, great. I would go back in a minute.

Dorze Lodge

Welcome to the site of Dorze Lodge. In the fantastic mountains of the Dorze people close to Arba Minch, we have recently renovated our spectacular lodge. If you stay in Dorze Lodge, then you stay very close to nature and to the local culture. This is the place to come to yourself or in touch with the friendly local people. The lodge is built in a rather rough (and beautiful) environment, and staffed by local people. We have a lot of activities you can do, like beautiful hikes and trekking’s (by yourself or guided). Other things you can do is: visit a local, visit the local school, join the local community in the evening at a campfire with music and dance, or go horseback riding. And we can offer you all kind of tours to different interesting attractions, close bye or up to the Omo valley. Or just lay in a hammock and enjoy the serenity. It’s amazing. We make sure that you will have an unforgettable time. You are very welcome.

Stunning views and lovely stay at Dorze

Reviewed By Y7569BAjaneth

I travelled here in March with family for 1 night after visiting the local area. We were the only visitors but made to feel at home. The rooms are spacious, quite basic but hot showers which was lovely. There were two moments of magic - Firstly they were kind to arrange a fabulous campfire with local villagers singing traditional songs, second the Sunrise over the lakes of Arba Minch - worth getting up for and one of the best i've ever seen! Thanks to all the staff

Beautiful view but some costumer service improvement needed

Reviewed By Rowena00

The view from Emerald lodge is truly fantastic. The rooms are nicely decorated and clean. And the staff are friendly and hospitable. One thing we weren't happy about was agreeing on a very high price for a special BBQ to celebrate my husband's birthday, we were expecting a celebration feast with lots of fish. In reality the BBQ was very basic and we were left hungry for fish. We understand Covid is a hard time but when a loyal customer pays a lot for an experience it's important to deliver something considered and special. I don't know where all the money went, certainly not on fish and 40th birthdays don't happen twice. But we really like the lodge and will be back, just make sure you negotiate if you want something that isn't on the menu.

Quiet, Abundant Birdlife, Views

Reviewed By Marlynne P

We were stranded here for several days due to uprisings in the southeast. It's a pleasant place and the birdlife is spectacular. The room was nice and the porch was a good place to sit and enjoy the views. We enjoyed the restaurant and the large patio, too. The lodge is a bit run down and more attention should be given to the spa and the equipment that is for rent. The spa is in grave need of repair and all of the bikes, etc. are broken or in sad shape.

Riesig

Reviewed By brinoe

Its not what it looks like online

Reviewed By Greets05

A dissapointing place to stay. We checked Tripadvisor and their website before we went there but both gave the wrong image. We chose the place because it looked nice and it had a shuttle service, which worked out perfectly fine. But on arrival at the hotel, we got suspicious. The hotel is located at a busy road, in an unattractive area of town. We were the only room guests there and this made us doubt the place even more. Anyhow, we decided to stay because it was only for a few days. Wifi doesnt work, room was hot, and there was a bad smell from the insecticide used. The guy at the reception had the best intentions but he was sometimes quite rude. But the worst thing was that boys were cleaning the garden in front of our room at 6 AM and they were screaming to each other whilst doing the job. We tried to sleep again but we couldn't anymore. It seems that they are simply not used to having room guests, let alone foreign guests. Staff hardly speaks English and the guests and some staff at the restaurant/bar are having a staring contest at you when you walk by as a foreigner. I felt uncomfortable there, perhaps it is more a place for the locals. Although even that I doubt because during our stay I only saw one other room occupied.
