Reviews on Central European food in Turnhout, Antwerp Province, Belgium. Turnhout (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈtʏrnɦʌut]) is a Belgian municipality located in the Flemish province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises only the city of Turnhout proper. On January 1, 2015, Turnhout had a total population of 42,637. The total area is 56.06 km² which gives a population density of 835.5 inhabitants per km². The agglomeration, however, is much larger, accounting up to 81,473 inhabitants. Turnhout is known for its playing card industry, as it houses the head office of the world's largest manufacturer of playing cards, Cartamundi. Turnhout is also the capital of the administrative district with the same name. The Turnhout city council often promotes the city as "the capital of the Kempen area". This designation is entirely unofficial, since the Kempen area is far larger than the Turnhout district and does not form an administrative unit.

Everything about Cachet de Cire sounded so much more beguiling than the cafes on the square. Ten minutes slow strolling took us to another world. A quiet garden lush with espaliered trees, a warm welcome and a serious menu. This is accomplished cooking. A tomato tart: pastry crisp yet buttery, sweet sundried tomatoes, an earthy black olive crumble, Parmesan ice cream. Firm white fish (ling) with slivers of artichoke sitting into a whey based foamy sauce spiked with parsley root - this is clever yet simple, full of flavour. And at about €60 per head including 2 glasses of wine, very well priced. My only regret? Not knowing about the 3 classic comfortable bedrooms tucked in upstairs, and returning instead to the standard hotel by the station instead. Another time. Dear Mrs. A.,Thank you so much for your wonderfull review, to use a flemish expression: our cheecks are blushing (blushing with pride). It is our daily goal to give our visitors a pleasant stay both at our restaurant and/or BnB and we are very pleased to read we succeeded. We look forward to welcome you in the future not only in our restaurant but also in one of our 3 comfortable rooms, all furnished with attention to detail. Boxspring beds, TV, WiFi and ensuite bathrooms with walk-in shower.Fee

Staff friendly and helpful. We were Flemish and English speakers in our group. They had English menu also.Food was good, nice sauce and cooked vegetables. The beer was good too and wine.Big negative was that the tables were too close to each other : 5-6 times we were asked by the waiter to move our chairs in to allow him to pass - not good for a relaxing meal. Especially since the prices were a little pricey for a brasserie. This was the second time visited - first for lunch and second for dinner... may not go back after the dinner experience!!
