Great folks who provided great service and a fine cup of coffee. I am left with a mug and a gift card and no chance to say goodbye. I wish them well in their future endeavors.

Dominic's Italian Country Restaurant

Reviewed By armstrongca - Jasper, Indiana

Found another gem on our drum corps summer tour. This restaurant is next to a small antique boutique, we almost missed it. The inside was decorated very conservative with many biblical scriptures and christian signs. throughout the restaurant.

Dominic's has fantastic Italian in HUGE portions. The bowls of pasta seem to be never-ending. My wife had a half-order of spaghetti with here salad that would have fed two. My son's personal pizza was enough to share.
My other son had the chicken cacciatore and liked it, but even the medium was very spicy. I had the chicken marsala. Also very good.

A very nice lady, who I assume was the owner/manager, came by to see how we were doing and to wish us a good evening. Very hospitable.

NOTE: the restaurant does not serve wine or other forms of alcohol. A little odd not to have wine with italian food, but it was still fantastic.

The Good: unique food, great Americana Hip decor, friendly service, good value

The Bad: not quick, small

This is an awesome rehash of a roadside diner. Parking is limited outside and it's usually crowded. The exterior looks like the 50s era place which it was.

The interior is small with a right little dining bar. There are a couple of tables as well. The decor is positive and Christian messages across the old bones.

Service is quick and friendly. The food takes its time. The dishes are universally excellent with lots of interesting specials. The pickles fries are stunning. The pies amazing and locally made ( they sell out quickly). The Burgers are the stars with the Hangover (with egg on waffle) being our current favorite.

The Road Word: go now to Belly and Soul. If you are reading this you are close enough to make the trip worth while.

I LOVE this bakery...I wish I could stop in more, but they aren't necessarily conveniently located. I actually had them do the cake for my wedding. They are amazing! Also, they have THE best donuts ever! :) craving that place now!

I really love everything about this great family friendly restaurant. The angus hamburger and their unique fries are the best I have ever had. Breakfast is not only reasonably priced but large portions and very good. I have also tried their fish basket and chef salad and found them both to be delicious. I am a fairly new customer but plan on being a regular. You know it's a good restaurant when the servers know all the customers by name because they eat here so often.Service is excellent and it's just one of those places that feels like home. Thanks for doing such a great job!

The Good: wonderfully odd, great food, great value, good service, neat location

The Bad: small, untidy

This is a rehabilitated roadside diner with primal neon on the sign. There is not much parking or space inside. It's a busy place and not the most organized place I have eaten at. The service is friendly and quick but not well trained ( pies, specials, etc needed a little reminder). The decor is a mix of roadside and odd ball which is fine by me.

The food was excellent with the Mushroom Pesto Burger and Pickle fries being a major hit. The chocolate pie was great and the goetta excellent. All the prices where very reasonable.

The Road Word: worth a 40 mile drive for a dinners and drive ins sort of place.

Southern Smoke BBQ

Reviewed By kentuckylongrifle - Independence, Kentucky

I grew up in this area but have lived in the next county over for the last 30 years. I was in the chair getting my ears lowered, discussing good eats, when my barber mentioned Southern Smoke. I queued as to it's location and was surprised as the place had been a well known local pizza joint just a few months before.

This was the day before Father's Day, and since I was heading over there for a visit I called pops and asked if he'd eaten lunch yet. They hadn't so I told them I would bring it out.

I got there about 1:00 pm and it seemed a light crowd considering it was lunch time, but then again it was Fathers Day weekend and it was also the first nice day without rain that we had in several weeks. The restaurant looked clean and the staff were friendly. I took a menu and placed my order and then grabbed a seat at the bar to wait. During my brief wait, 3 patrons left and while paying all told the cashier the food was great. A good sign I thought as most folks out here where I grew up have no qualms about speaking their true thoughts.

The food arrived in about 15 minutes and I was on my way to visit dad. After the table was set we dug in. The ribs were large and looked inviting. I had ordered two dinners and should have ordered some larger or extra sides as this was to be split between 3 people. We ended up with just some leftover beans, but plenty of left over ribs. Almost a full rack.

The folks thought it excellent. Dad liked it so much he had a second helping of ribs which is unusual for him to have seconds of anything because of his medical condition. I thought the ribs were a bit dry, but neither of them did. We all agreed the sweet potatos were excellent as well as the baked beans but the corn bread left something to be desired. It wasn't bad just somewhat pudding-ish. My wife was not fond of the one I brought home for her either.

I usually don't review local places until after eating there at least several times. It's not the best BBQ ribs I've ever had, but then again the best I've ever had was from a auto mechanic who built his own smoker. Southern Smoke was good enough that I will be going back foe seconds.

Skyline in Alexandria is the ultimate family dining, customer service experience. It is where everybody knows your name, your order, and they are glad you came.

The restaurant serves the famous Cincinnati chili which can be an acquired taste but is addicting as is the service experience at this restaurant. On Wednesday nights, kids eat free and there are crafts available for them.

I like spagetti with the cinnamon spiced beef topping "drained dry" with beans and shredded cheese. It comes with a side of oyster crackers. One favorite to fill the whole in a cracker with the signature hot sauce creating a "cracker bomb", a taste explosion in your mouth.

I also enjoy a chili cheese sandwich. This is a mustard rubbed hot dog bun filled with signature chili and topped with a heaping mound of that cheese which melts on top of the chili. Recommend eating this with a fork.
