Alaska, United States Food Guide: 5 Bar food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Sitka

Reviews on Bar food in Sitka, Alaska, United States. The city of Sitka, located on Baranof Island along the Alaska Panhandle, was once the capital of Russian America. Nearby Sitka National Historical Park was established to commemorate the Battle of Sitka in 1804, the last major conflict between Europeans and the native Alaskans. The park now helps preserve the culture of the Tlingit people, as well as the Russian and American settlers, with collections of rare artifacts, the preserved remains of the Tlingit fort and a Russian Bishop's House.

We went to this place on the advice of some locals, and were not disappointed. This place is upstairs, close to the waterfront and clearly attracts a large contingent of “locals”. We did not spot a lot of tourists here. The ambiance is “sports bar” meets “fisherman’s hangout”, which was just what we were looking for. There is a large central bar and more than an adequate number tables around it. The space felt relaxed and uncrowned. Noise level was moderate, but not excessive. We were promptly served and attended to throughout the meal. We ordered one large salad to share between us, which turned out to be a very good decision as the salad was so large that it could have served 3 people easily, and we are not “light” eaters. the pizza was good and generously sized, but the crust not quite as crispy as I like. Still, I’d be happy to come back to this place on a regular basis.

Bit pricey for folks from the mainland, but the food is good, service is excellent. Very convenient location. Pro tip : Shop downstairs for Alaska trinkets and a $ 30,000 fur coat and then come upstairs where everything will then seem cheap !!

Everything in Alaska is expensive - but this place was still a $hock. I paid over $30 for a small piece of halibut! The location was great. The service was good. The food was very good.

This spot is conveniently located if you have arrived on a cruise ship as it's sort of across the street from the tender dock area. The visitors center (across another street) also recommended it when we were looking for a spot for an early lunch/brunch on a Sunday. It started off great. We got a table outside on the deck since it was sunny and warm enough to be outside in a t-shirt. Service started off as prompt. We decided to split several items and at first the fried halibut chunks were tasty, substantial, and fried nicely. Then we waited for quite a long time before our server came by to tell us that there was a little accident in the kitchen involving the rest of our order ending up on the floor, so they were (thankfully!) remaking everything. When the rest of our order arrived, it was good but not fantastic. We got a crab and cheese melt sandwich that was alright, although the veggie of the day (green beans) was really excellent -- nice sweet beans with butter. The fried oysters were lightly coated and pan-fried, which was good, but they were paltry in number. The sweet potato fries were average. It was a serviceable meal but nothing to repeat or recommend. With the exception of a long wait after our first dish arrived where we didn't get any attention until the report about the kitchen incident, the rest of the service was very good.

Fun, crazy, loud, over the top experiences visiting the P bar! Ringing the bell was a fun birthday experience but having someone else ring the bell was even better. Staff was mostly friendly, drinks are strong, beer is cold. Jukebox is great and if you need to pick up a 12 pack, there is off sale available as well.
