Alamo, located in the Rio Grande Valley in what is nicknamed the "Land of Two Summers", is a city in the irrigated area of southern Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. Known as "The Refuge to the Valley", it is located in an area of abundant vegetable farming and citrus groves, and it is a noted winter resort/retirement town near the Mexico-U.S. border. Alamo is one of the Rio Grande Valley's gateways to Mexico, via U.S. Route 281 and Nuevo Progreso, Tamaulipas, as well as gateway to the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge. Alamo's population was 18,353 at the 2010 census and an estimated 19,220 in 2016.

Really tasty concoctions. I balk at paying $10 for a burger - can't say that I've ever had one that was worth that price but THESE ARE GOOD HAMBURGERS!

The pastries were pretty good,perhaps even better than some I have bought in bakeries in Mexico. Tamales pretty good, not as big as the ones I have seen in Mexico, but pretty good. On weekends they have barbacoa (a meat dish that is popular in Mexico, especially eaten on weekends). Nice cashier, not sure about her English since we spoke Spanish. I would visit again. They also sell fresh corn tortillas.

Been there for lunch & supper. They usually have a variety on their menu. Than you can't beat the blizzards& their select of sundaes, etc.

My wife and I dropped in at El Rancho Grande Restaurant in San Juan, Texas. We were not super hungry, so we shared a Panchos Mazatlan Plate. The plate was very generously served. Lots of grilled Fajita strips and plenty of cheese and toasted tortilla chips. The Jalapeno and onions can be had on top or on the side. This was a very enjoyable meal. We even had a to go box for the left overs. I would highly recommend this place. It is one of our favorites on our list.

This is a beautiful restaurant. The staff are all very nice and accomodating. The food on the otherhand? My fried shrimp was just supposed to be regular fried shrimp but this was very spicy. It would have been nice if someone had told me about that earlier. At $25. for 12 small and medium sized shrimp it wasn’t cheap either. Hubby got the soft-crab @ 2 for $25. They were very small too; and they’d been flattened beyond recognition. Our server was young and new, we were his first customers, so I didn’t want to upset him, but he got the order wrong and took ages to serve/return.

We're from Michigan and we were visiting Bibleville and we went to lunch at this place. We walked in and wow! it smelled good. We walked through the line... Get whatever you want, how you want it...they're really accommodating. I got one of their potatoes which by the way is massive! And I didn't realize it so I also bought a sandwich with barbecue beef and it was huge. So needless to say I had lots of leftover food. The interior isn't real fancy but the food is wonderful. You won't go away hungry and you'll be back!

If this is the same El Manjar bakery that used to be a few more miles south on 907, it is absolutely a required stop for breakfast tacos, tamales, and pan dulce. Cheap, abundant options - and really tasty looking cakes and flan, too!
* I don't know if the breakfast tacos are an option all day, but I've eaten here for lunch and picked up tamales for dinner and ate here at least once or twice a day for several days. I can quit whenever I want. ::shifty eyes::

We eat here often. All the choices are good. My wife prefers the half chicken and I like the Turkey. Sausage with Jalapeno I nice and spicy. All the meats are smoked just the right amount. The Rudy's spicy Barbecue sauce is outstanding.

The fresh shrimp was good. Most of the people eating there were very old, which may explain the lack of flavor, spice, and salt in the food. They also had American food. I didn't even see a sign on the building. They also serve breakfast.

AKA "The Pink Restaurant."
Have eaten there several times, and am always happy. I usually have the chicken taco plate, and last time there my friend had a chalupa. We both cleaned our plates, and I would have licked it if I could get away with it!
Service always good, too.
Very noisy there, and the tv is going, too.
There is an extra room to the side for more patrons. Winter Texans come here, too, and they seem to know the employees well, and vice versa.
El Dorado is a popular restaurant a few blocks away, but never had decent food there, so I come here for good local Mexican food.
I know you're full after eating there, but stop at the bakery next door, and get some treats for you and your friends! Pick up a pair of tongs and a plate, and get your pan dulces.
Most Mexican bakeries sell by the pound, like $3.00.
