We had our best meal of the holiday here from Mitch's a la carte menu. The service was great, the food amazing and the atmosphere really lovely. We got talking to people on adjacent tables both times we visited, even although that's something we normally never do.

We came back for this restaurant for a family triple celebration. There was eight of us all in fine fettle following champagne pre- drinks. We all had the 49euro pre-set menu- me slightly adjusted as you all know I can't have onions- everyone of the 8 of us thought the food was fantastic.Every course was tasty starting with the amuse bouche to the dessert. The wines were lovely and the service was superb with the waitress speaking brilliant English.
What can I say - what a night!

Crepes a Gogo

This strangely located crepe shop in the under road walkway, is worth finding for an amazing array of crepes.
But I'd stick to the sensational sweet crepes (they're also cheaper), although the savoury was nice enough it wasn't good value.
Kids were flying with how good their sweet crepes were, and tasting them they were great !

We had identified this restaurant as having good reviews on trip advisor. I wasn't particularly enthusiastic when we found the restaurant. The menu board is a little 'tired' and the food on offer not particularly inspiring. We were the only ones there are 8pm, although by the time we left there was one other couple. I am sure that with very little updating they could make the place more inviting and the menu more attractive. Starters were very good and fresh, main courses OK, but not outstanding. I am glad we dined there, but probably would not choose to return. The whole of this area has restaurants and this one needs to find a way to make itself stand out more.

Pay attention. I am 68 years old and a woman of the world, but I was wrong footed by this restaurant.
Lovely welcome from a waiter and the chef mingles.
First of all the garden is lovely, and despite the muted lighting, the menu is easy to read. We ordered from the menu. It looked strange, but we coped. I ordered endive two ways, and confit duck. My husband ordered sweet potato soup and pork hache.
What we had not realised was that all the food is served together, so I had a cassoulet of haricot and duck, mushrooms, endive two ways, goats cheese in honey and a salad on a tray, while my husband had sweet potato soup in a jar, with his pork beneath a pea and cauliflower topping with salad, mushrooms and cheese.
It was all absolutely delicious.
Not realising what was happening, we were horrified at the thought of a main course on top of these generous portions and were hugely relieved to find that we had had it all together. Apparently this is very French, but never before encountered such a thing!
We shared a slice of rhubarb tart. Delicious.
So, highly recommended but be aware of this different way of presenting the food!
We had two pichets of vin rose - lovely
You need to book. It is very popular with French people.

Restaurant Gambetta

We are called to Aix on business often for appointments at the beginning of the afternoon. An hour's drive to arrive around midi, and parking in the Carnot garage just across the street, and so for the near-routine of these outings, passing up Le Gambetta wouldn't be practical for its mere efficiency and ease.
When we enter, the nicest young woman greets us and finds us a table, despite being full with other tables reserved. Her hosting and service are remarkably cordial and bright for any part of France, and we are never waiting very long to eat. Their menu offers a decent variety of dishes, but the midi formules have always sufficed. Their little kitchen produces very appealing plates and the taste and artistry are superb.
When we make these trips, it is of necessity and we need no surprises that delay or deter us from the Mission. To have this delightful place to go for dependable, pleasant service and dining is to ... gift us! We thank the staff at Le Gambetta for their fine work and service. We look forward to our next visit; a choice on our part, and luckily a choice which fits so nicely into our schedule in Aix.

Trattoria Da Aldo

Authentic Italian Food (slow food).

Reviewed By Mike N - New York City, New York

I always eat some Italian wherever I go and Da Aldo was the place in Aix. I'm not sure if it was the setting or the fact that no one was there on this mid week evening (I even reserved) but it did not do it for me. I just had one plate that was more than adequate (I usually dine soup to nuts) and sadly left with a "Ho, Hmm" feeling. Maybe you will find better. They sure were nice enough.

We have been eating at crepes at this tiny, charming restaurant for over five years. It would be impossible to visit Aix en Provence without stopping by for a crepe. Delphine comes from Brittany, so she makes her batter the way it should be with all the right ingredients. Stop by for a sweet or savoury version - or both - you will be happy you did.

There are many touristy places in Aix & the quality of the food is heavily compromised to catch the unaware student/tourist, especially in the guise of being healthy.
Nothing healthy or tasty about this except for the cheesecake.
And, quite pricey too.
Even 5Guys is better.
The staff are very friendly though- no doubt laughing all the way to the Bank!
