9 Wine Tours & Tastings in Province of Granada That You Shouldn't Miss

September 8, 2021 Sheron Bogner

There’s an Arabic inscription that captures the essence of Granada in a few words: “There is nothing so sad as to be blind in Granada.” The perspicacity of this declaration becomes obvious as soon as you penetrate the austere walls of the Alhambra and take in the full majesty of the architecture, carvings and fountains of the Nasrid palaces. Your ticket (which should be bought well in advance following the instructions on the attraction’s website) also affords entry to the Renaissance Palace of Carlos V and to the exquisite gardens of the Generalife. If you are celebrating a special event, or are in the market for a splurge, you can stay in the lovely Parador, right on site. Make your way down into the city via the atmospheric old quarter of the Albaicin, with its tiny craft shops and restaurants, and head for the Cathedral and Royal Chapel. Also plan a visit to the crypt for the tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella, the instigators of Spain’s imperial adventures to the New World and beyond. It’s worth making the short journey out of town to visit the Monasterio Cartuja, a fabulous Carthusian monastery in the baroque style. Admirers of the poet Lorca should make the effort to visit the Casa-Museo Federico Garcia Lorca in Fuente Vaqueros, about 11 miles from the city centre.

Do you know how the "spanish TAPAS ritual" works?? We go from bar to bar drinking and tasting new tapas. Tapas started as a bite to go with your drink, but they have evolved into a whole way of eating, a culture of food in itself. More than a type of food in special, it's about finger food or small portions to share with your friends and family. And since a varity of tapas is ordered, it's the perfect way to taste many different specialties and enjoy the wealth of the local cooking. I'd like to invite you to enjoy the experience of "ir de tapas", as granainos do. Get away from the touristic spots and head into local neighborhoods. I will introduce you to local gastronomic specialties, anecdotes of the city's history and LOCAL way of life. It's an ALL INCLUSIVE tour where you are going to love eating delicious tapas and really appreciate drinking fine wines. ARE YOU GOING TO MISS IT?

Inclusions: Will include visiting three bars and having a couple tapas and a drink at each place, in the last one an EXTRAS wine., The price includes two tapas and one drink at each place (in the last one an EXTRAS wine). Any additional food & drink will be paid for by the client, though most people find SIX tapas and FOUR drinks makes a good (and filling!) meal., 4 DRINKS & 6 TAPAS per person included in Price., Lunch, Dinner, Alcoholic Beverages

Exclusions: Transportation to/from attractions, Gratuities, Hotel pickup

(I've been working and living in Granada for around three months, I'd been once before but this time I wanted a context to what I was looking at- because it's so mesmirising). I can't reccomend Gabriela highly enough, she was absolutely fantastic. Genuine, friendly, down to earth, curious to know what your interest in The Alhambra and your experience of Granada and has such a great insight into the Alahambra, the General life and the way it fits into the life of Granada. She made the tour one of the highlights of my time in Granada so far. She had a lot of stories that all seemed to interlink and just made it feel alive. Gaby illuminated the backstrory of the enormous rooms and the historical context about the place - I was again absolutely amazed by the whole place because it leaves you speechless- you just wonder if the architect's were dreaming as they built it. Definately one of the best tours I've done, without a doubt, as I've always wanted to go on a private tour and it felt private with hardly anyone around- when I was there today, it was practically empty, unheard of! We met at 11.00 but we went in at 13.00pm- it was also reassuring to know that she is always updating her knowledge about the palace and the many people who've visited it over the centuries due to the books she reads about it. She is certainly local and had some great tips about places/towns to visit in Andalucia/Granda province and a restauraunt for good arros. So it's a perfect time to go, if you are in Granada or will be going to in the future then Gaby is the perfect guide to show you. She also runs a tapas tour, so that's next on my list! Thanks very much Gaby!

We start the tour with delicious local tapas and tastings in the historic centre of Granada. Your Food Sherpa will lead you to some typical businesses in the city. At the first stop we try two contemporary dishes. At this restaurant we dispell some urban myths about Spanish food. Information that will be handy for you over the rest of your stay in Andalucia. At the second stop we taste more traditional food prepared in a hidden restaurant well-loved by locals. Our final stop on the route is a classic restaurant in Granada, trading since 1976. Here we try two dishes and a traditional dessert ending our experience on a sweet note. Then we head to the best flamenco venue in Granada. A very nice tour. Instead of the usual crowded and noisy tapas joints we had a bit of that but also some stops at places where locals would by deli treats such as ham, fruit and nuts, and finished off at a restaurant with a fair bit of local history attached. Our host was organized and informed, and provided some insight into Spanish culture over and beyond food. Very interesting and highly recommended.

I am Spanish but not from Granada, in fact, it was my first time there. I was with a British friend of mine. We were recommended this tour and it was definitely worthwhile. We enjoyed ourselves ever so much. We got to try a wide variety of tapas and drinks. The guide made the tour special for everyone as he was attentive, talkative, knowledgable and had a great sense of humor. Enjoyable.
