short of time, we had only a gentle stroll from "down" to "up" in this promising-looking botanical garden: we vow next visit: more time, closer looking, decent visit to the historic Reggia (original royal palace & gathering place for earliest finds from Herculaneum)

Il Real Sito di Portici

We walked along from our hotel and came across this place by accident. I asked the gate guard whether we could look over the Gardens and he told us to go inside the building. Not really knowing what to expect, we were astounded upon entry at the state of the wall and ceiling paintings - they were beautiful!
Apparently, this is a museum / university building dedicated to agriculture. Walking around, we were literally the only people around. There were no staff either.
All in all, not exactly a tourist attraction, but certainly worth a look at the decoration for a few minutes.

On your way to the ruins on your right hand side you will see this little museum. GO IN! Visit it before and after you visit the site. Ask at the desk if you can return after visiting the site. As you walk through this fairly modern interactive Museum you get an idea of what the site looked like before the eruption and who lived there. Just a really enjoyable not to be missed experience.

L'antico porto del Granatello offre i servizi essenziali del porto commerciale e turistico, ma tutto è molto basilare ed approssimativo, occorrerebbe investire per migliorare le strutture ed i servizi, il contesto e la città di Portici lo meriterebbe.

Get the bus from Portici. Take water and good shoes. Fantastic views into the crater and well worth the 20 minute walk from the bus station. Really great trip.

Lovely people, fabulous house, good location walking distance to the train station. Interior is dark so cool in the summer. No aircon in my room but cool non the less. Reasonable value for money, I prefer this to a modern hotel.

Tutti a cinema col cappotto. Possiamo migliorare?
