Smallin Civil War Cave

Discovered in 1818, Smallin Cave’s breathtaking ten-story arch will lead you into rich human history, unusual geology and rare cave life. One-hour guided tours, Open year-round.

Had a rare opportunity to see Smallin Cave for a "night" tour - rare as the night tours are only offered in the Fall along with dinner - beans cornbread and fried potatoes next to an outdoor campfire. That was visit #1 as we have already made plans to visit the cave during our next visit to Springfield. Which would make our second visit or "twice".Smallin Cave is privately owned and run - the whole family keeps you entertained with the history of the cave. Smallin Cave was just approved to be placed on the list of National Historic Places and well deserved - the amount of history that is little part of Springfield is well worth the trip - used by the Osage Indians - Settlers - both the Union and the Confederate Armies. Call ahead for tickets as tour space is limited. Check out their web site - worth the time to look online and well worth the time for a small trip back in time - photos inside the cave and out are welcomed - will not be a waste of your digital camera space!

We visited here with our church group. The path through the woods is nice, the actors did a good job (VERY creepy at times), and the little petting zoo for kids was nice. If you want to make a night of it, they show scary movies on a big "drive in" type screen, but you'll need to bring chairs/blankets, since it's not actually a drive in.

This was my first ever escape room type experience. It would be a great place to take a family with children. I went with a group of friends in our 20s. It was fun but there was no time limit and there wasn't any puzzle type activities in the challenge we did. It was only find one clue then search everywhere to find the next one. Honestly we found most of the clues just searching for the first one. I think there is room for improvements but for the price it was ok and would be good for smaller children.

We really enjoyed this antique store. It was so organized and cleanly laid out. The items of many different dealers were laid out neatly and orderly which made them easy to view. You won't find a lot of new items mixed in here, the owners stress to their dealers that they only want antiques displayed. A great store with so many cool things to look at and purchase.
