The owner of this private château, Claude Douce, was a famous advertising boss and apparently coined the line "Because I'm worth it" for L'Oréal and at the end of the tour you get to see/hear about his career. But he has a fanatical interest in prehistory and restored this medieval château both to show its history off but also his huge collection of prehistoric artefacts. We were four visitors, in time for the 11.30 tour (only guided tours), and were able to wander around outside beforehand - it is very prettily situated on the banks of the Vézère. Our guide, a young lady whose name it is my shame not to have taken, was frankly outstanding - informative to the nth detail, smiling, enthusiastic but with a delicious irony so at home in this quirky place. It is not the most famous castle at the centre of French history but nevertheless touches important moments in that history and has a story all its own. It was rather nice as we went from room to room (where you can sit on the furniture!) to see the owner wandering round looking for his coffee-mug. This is eclecticism incarnate - where else can you see one of only five known Pharaonic ceremonial flint knives alongside a mammoth's molar, exquisite Roman glass and medieval wood-carvings? The pièce de résistance is the owner's cabinet of curiosities at the end. We just did the castle tour and I am going back shortly to do the museum which, we were told, is a cornucopia of prehistoric objects, doubtless at home in this valley which is itself the cradle of European prehistory. The visit made our day but you have to like "wacky"!

The church is situated down a back road in the village, and easy to miss unless you take a walk around the streets.
Unusual design, and very dark inside, with little decoration. However, its simplicity is also its beauty, and the thick stone walls make it a very peaceful spot to sit and meditate.

To be honest I didn't expect a huge amou t out of a dinosaur park but it was time for Mr 10 year old to have a choice. It was a lovely say so just to have a walk in the bush was nice and there were dinosaurs hiding there as well. There was a nice activity sheet in English for my son and the lady at the ticket office helped us out in English. The Troglodyte section was interesting but the highlight for us was the rope climbing activity. I was a bit nervous about safety instructions in French but it was clear and we knew what to do. What I was very impressed with was that the instructor stayed with us and watched us all the way through the course. They have three levels of courses for different age groups, sizes and ability. We did the junior - personally I'm not brave enough to do the adults! It was a great day!

Si votre temps d'attente entre l'achat des billets pour Lascaux et la visite du fac-similé de la grotte est important, pourquoi ne pas aller visiter un mardi ou un vendredi cette ferme spécialisée dans la culture de la noix, la production d'huile de noix, de pâtisseries aux noix et de miel. On emprunte quelques petites routes, mais une fois en haut, l'accueil est super chouette, la boutique propose des produits de qualité à des prix intéressants ! Leur huile de noix est particulièrement aromatique et vaut vraiment le détour. Je crois qu'on les retrouve également sur les marchés de Montignac et de Périgueux. Côté gâteaux, ils vendent des petits sachets à 3€ avec des mini tartes aux noix délicieuses !

This magnificent Center and Temple was originally founded in the 1970s by His Holiness the 16th Karmapa.. Many teachings are given throughout the year by High Tibetan Rinpoches.. There is also a beautiful Stupa.. A must visit especially if you are Buddhist .

This tourist information office is also the admin office for the communal campsite along the river bank. The staff are very helpful and have the full range of brochures and information available to help you enjoy your stay in the area.
