Dumaguete Divers

Diving is what we do best - especially within the rich waters of Apo Island and shoreline of Negros Oriental. "Mabuhay" is a Philippine greeting. It literally is the imperative form of "live", from the root word buhay (life). Dumaguete Divers provides a personalised service specialising in small groups and Adventure tours. SSI Instructor Training Center and PADI diving courses are offered as well as day trips and half day local dives. All travellers are welcome to enjoy our friendly club atmosphere at the Dauin Dive Cafe, next to our dive center, which offers great value meals and friendly service. Shadowed by low mountain ranges rising along the coast the province has plenty of activities to make your stay exciting and rewarding.

If you are deciding who to dive with in Dumaguete, let me decide for you: Dumaguete Divers.
All of the staff here from the boat crew to the guides to the kitchen crew to the jeep drivers to the management to the master divers are INCREDIBLY kind and accommodating.
I traveled to Dumaguete alone, but I never felt alone when I was in the water or at the Dauin Dive Cafe. I am so grateful to everyone there for being such excellent human beings! Mabuhay!

We had a very good time in Dauin!
Although the booking process was challenging (it took us an entire month to get a proper invoice from the Cebu office, but it's not the center's fault, obviously), the dive sites are awesome and the staff super nice. Our guide, Thony, has extraordinary eyes for small stuff.
Don't go to Dauin if you're not into muck diving. Their highlight is the small critters, such as crabs, shrimps, seahorses, nudibranches and so on.
The day trip to Apo was great as well, with gorgeous coral Gardens. I was only expecting to see more fish.
We stayed at Pura Vida, a really good hotel as well and booked a 8 day unlimited package, so 3 dives + 1 night dive.
They also offer transfers to their other sites, such as Alona Beach in Panglao. Going there we were able to dive Sumilon and Oslob.
This is a very good option when you don't want to lose a day of diving when traveling.
I would highly recommend this center but keep in mind that there are plenty of little sanctuaries which require entry fees, payable in cash, with additionnal cost for cameras. Make sure you bring enough money.

Got my PADI Open Water and PADI Advanced Open Water Certificate with Gary Finney and he was the best instructor I could ever have. Every friend of mine who got their diving certificate with him has nothing but praises! So do I! Professional, funny and very knowledgeable with more than 8,000 dives on his vest! His rates are also very cheap for such an amazing service! Should I take my diving to the next level, for sure I would be taking him! He's the best! So if you are planning to take your diving certificate, just go and visit Dauin. Trust me, every penny you spend will be worth all the experience you will have!

Dive Society Dauin

Reviewed By Frank W - Hamburg, Germany

We are regular repeaters, travelling to Dauin nearly every year since 2007. In general there's nothing to blame about. Always fair, always friendly. High supportive and service oriented staff (back office, dive shop, boat crew), experienced dive guides and spotters and -last not least- a great dive shop management. They all try to fullfill the customers wishes, needs and requests and realize them most of the time.
Dive Society is embedded in El Dorado Resort with direct access to the beach, the sea and beautiful local divesites in "walk-distance" (i.e. Housereef, Pura Vida). Lot of others can be reached within a few minute boat ride.
Apo Island and Siquijor are also not far away and can be visited during a 1/2day or 1 day trip.
Dauin area is one of the "Top Ten Critter destinations" in the world (see: EZDive) and a MUST on every divers to-do-list... At least for macro lovers... :)
... And I know what I am takling about... ;)
During our last stay ther was a small impact as a fire had damaged and burned down more than 50% of the resort....
But even w/o Dive Shop, bar, restaurant, pool.... Dive Society and El Dorado Team made our vacation there a big success!! We loved it to be there and even didn't think about to move to another resort.

Now -after rebuilding and re-opening phase- we are really curious and happy to return again!! And -honestly spoken- we expect it will be even better than before the big fire! :)
SEE YOU IN OCTOBER, guys!!

Instructor Development Philippines

Professional level scuba diver training. PADI Instructor Development Courses (IDC), PADI Divemaster Internships, Specialty Instructor Ratings, and Emergency First Response Instructor Courses.

Reviewed By Noah D - Grafton, Massachusetts, United States

I just finished my PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor credentials with Instructor Development Philippines (IDP) and I can’t speak highly enough of the experience. Tim Latimer (Liquid’s Course Director) and Gabrielle (Gabby) Holder (Course Director at Atmosphere Resorts) are almost more concerned about developing reputable instructors than their own students! For the sake of other prospective instructors, I’d like to share some details of my experience, as well as what I found to be IDP’s clear strengths.
Like most prospective instructors, I shopped around first and compared offers from a handful of dive shops. Weeks of deliberation came down to two offers, and I initially chose the competitor (not on Negros). As I was staying at Liquid at the time, I told Tim in the morning of my decision. Bafflingly, he smiled, shrugged, and discussed both programs jovially over breakfast! He wanted to make sure I left with a clear understanding of what I was choosing. While there were pros and cons for each place, Tim’s level of concern over my education won me back over to his program, and that has made all the difference.
Tim and Gabby together have decades of experience in the scuba industry from multiple countries, but they have not become complacent; they are dedicated to continuing their diving education. For example, though Course Director Tim has been managing dive shops and now running his own resort in Dauin for years, and is an avid tec diver (trimix), he is in the classroom today studying for his sidemount instructor rating! This commitment extends to their businesses and their students. IDP’s dual-resort training program is more than a marketing gimmick. Atmosphere offers a breakfast buffet of imported cheeses, cured meats, creative hash browns, and all sorts of otherwise impossible-to-find delicacies; Liquid offers a few budget rooms at a rate cheaper than Atmosphere’s breakfast buffet! The resultant clientele to which instructor candidates are exposed have a broad range of education, dive experience, and expectations for their vacation. That breadth alone was worth the course with IDP, as candidates get a feel for how two different businesses are run, but the benefits go on.
PADI standards for an IDC allow for a maximum of six students to one course director. My IDC @ IDP had three students... and five teachers. Two PADI Course Directors, and three IDC Staff Instructors. Need I say more on that?
IDP’s scheduling and flow were impeccable. With extra days before hand for pre-IDC preparation and a well thought-out schedule during the IDC that allows plenty of time for remediation and fine-tuning before the Instructor Evaluation (IE), we were all busy but not rushed. My fellow candidates and I were also never left in darkness as to scheduling, transportation, or even food; rides between resorts were there when we needed them, and I am certain my scores were boosted from 4’s to 5’s thanks to the occasional surprise pizzas provided by Gabby (sometimes in addition to Atmosphere’s luxury lunches).
Now one week into my post-IDC internship period (I passed the IE), I have already earned my first “cert” – an EFR course I taught to a Divemaster trainee. I also have job offers coming in from contacts they’ve introduced me to - though Tim and I haven’t even had our first official sit down chat about career development yet. Both my fellow candidates passed the IE as well; one was hired almost on the spot upon graduation while the other (a Filipino) was now able to accept a pay raise at the resort where he already worked as a Divemaster. I don’t know where I would be if I had gone elsewhere, and frankly I don’t see any reason to think about it – I’m busy! Thank you so much Tim & Gabby. Prospective instructors take note: Studying at IDP under Tim and Gabby will kickstart your scuba teaching career.

I had to ask four different people before finding the entrance since there is no signage. There are steps leading down to the Hot Springs. There are four concrete pools. Some are very hot. The hike back up is a bit strenuous, but the steps are nice. I recommend for a single visit.
