The Palace Cinema Cinderford

Reviewed By rebeccacT7040RQ - Gloucestershire, United Kingdom

This is our family's favourite cinema in the area......let me tell you why. You are assured of a warm welcome in this wonderful cinema with very affordable prices for families. Housed in an Art Deco building with original fixtures and fittings, tickets are priced at £3.50 and reasonably priced refreshments include a range of hot & cold drinks, savoury snacks, sweets and popcorn in a variety of bucket sizes to suit. The seats are comfortable and it's warm and cosy, with two screens: a large screen downstairs (which has some double seats) and a smaller one upstairs. Great for children's birthday visits, as the cinema has a lovely Art Deco cafe room at the back where families can meet up to drop off their children beforehand - it's like stepping back in time. Always showing the latest films and a matinee available too. We love the Palace!

As soon as I arrived at Cosmic Teapot and met Cheryl I felt relaxed as she makes you feel so welcome and cared for. Cheryl took the time to get to know me and what I wanted from my session. I felt that she really listened and her summerhouse provides a safe space you feel you can let go of your worries in her safe hands. I had the intuitive massage with reiki and it was beyond amazing! Each part of the massage was always just enough to be relaxing but also feel it working away at my muscles, bringing energy back into me. I’d never tried Reiki before and wasn’t sure what to expect but this also made me feel overcome with peace and rejuvenated. The tranquility of the summerhouse definitely adds to the experience. By the end you won’t ever want to leave! I can’t thank Cheryl enough, my session set me up for a weekend in the Forest of Dean enjoying the natural beauty the area has to offer with a clear mind and quiet, peaceful confidence. :)

Mallards Pike Lake

This beautiful setting is a great spot for a picnic or a gentle lakeside walk and is easilly accesible from the Family Cycle Trail. Those seeking something a little more adventerous can enjoy adventure high above the forest floor, taking on zip-wires, tarzan swings and a variety of obstacles! Get off the beaten track on board an all-terrain forest segway. Many ponds in the forest were made to supply water wheels that powered the mills and iron forges or are remnants of the forest’s industrial past. Once these were no longer required some were transformed by the Forestry Commission for the community’s enjoyment. You might think that the name Mallard Pike refers to a pike (fish) or to a mallard duck. This pike is actually a turnpike or toll road; the mallard comes from a Mr Maller, who lived until the early 1950’s in a toll keeper’s cottage, which was close to where you turned off the Parkend to Blakeney road. Maller’s Turnpike eventually became Mallard’s Pike.

We spent a great day here with our family, the car park was very busy, (Bank Holiday weekend) so good idea to get here early enough. Great place to walk with dogs, but main trails can be busy with bikes so try to stick to the smaller paths (which are more fun anyway). We stayed all day, will definitely be back.

Littledean Jail Museum

Reviewed By 335jacquiec - Swansea County, United Kingdom

What a wonderful hidden gem in the middle of the Forest of Dean! We have been 3 times now and have still probably NOT seen it all. There's so much to see, so much to read!, so much to take in. From Marilyn Monroe to Mods & Rockers and all sorts of QUIRKY things in between! This place has to be seen to be believed. I thought I was a collector of weird paraphernalia, verging on 'hoarder of note' but, this place has to be gone through with eyes wide open, or else you'll miss something. I was transported back to my youth whilst looking at some of the exhibits he has so carefully put together. It's so full, he's already running short on space... again It really is a great talking point in the area. Especially in the local pubs. Give yourself a treat; you'll never get so much for a tenner in your life again!
