The Citadel

The citadel was built on the fondations of an old royal castle built in the beginning of the 13th century facing the estuary of the river Canche. Statue Equestre De Douglas Haig

Standing in front of the municipal theatre, the equestrian statue of Field Marshal Douglas Haig (Commandant-in-Chief of theBritish Army during the Great War) is one of the few reminders of the pivotal role played by the peaceful town of Montreuil during the Great War. This statue was made in 1931 by Paul Landowski, the french sculptor of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro.
