The Anamalai Tiger Reserve has a long management history since 1848. It is the erstwhile Coimbatore South Forest division, which was a model forest division for the Madras State. Till 1879 Anamalais was one range under the charge of Sub-Assistant Conservator. Anamalai Tiger Reserve is carved out of the Tamil Nadu portion of the Anamalais. Anamalai Tiger Reserve is a protected area located in the Anaimalai Hills of Western ghats. The Tiger reserve can be reached from Pollachi town in Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu state. Have to travel to Top slip from Pollachi to enter the Tiger reserve. Though it is Tiger reserve, the forest has most wild animals right from Elephant, Panther, Deer, Wild Dog, Nilgiri Tahr, etc in it. Further travel from Anamalai TIger reserve, you will enter in to Parambikulam Tiger reserve which belongs to Kerala state. Had chance to visit both Anamalai TIger reserve and Parambikulam Tiger reserve several times. Limited bus services are available.

A very close by location to rejuvenate yourself. Its uninterrupted nature, pollution less air, noise free environment, serene and soothing to soul. Food can be pre ordered and will be served on time. Ask for a refreshing herbal tea, which will be made to order. Food is a simple vegetarian home cooked fare. Its a litter free zone and the loo is clean. A place to mediate, gaze into nature, admire bird and occasional mammals. Hardly an hour drive from Cbe.

You can drive up to the gate then the Indian bureaucracy kicks in, after filling in a million forms and hanging around for ages you are put on a government bus to do the 'safari' we were happy to have seen a rat snake, elephants and deer. The way up is leisurely then the bus races back down, as the driver appears to be in a rush to get back. There are also some pretty pointless stops along the way.
