Great place for a walk. Shady, cement paths, many things to do. Many people walk dogs. Safe atmosphere.

17,000 Years of Continuous Human Habitation! Welcome to Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park. This park is a memorial to the relationship between people and natural resources. Native Americans first came here during the Paleo-Indian period to hunt Ice Age mammals. Several cultures occupied this land for thousands of years, each creating their own history here. The Mississippian culture arrived here around 900CE and constructed mounds for the elite members of their society. Today the mounds remain for all to see and explore.

This park does an excellent job of both meeting your expectations (learning about Native Americans and their traditions in a direct way) and expanding your awareness in unexpected ways. The displays of artifacts from this largest archaeological site in the U.S.A. are very engaging and impressive. The Earth Lodge is the most moving site on the grounds. Walking around the mounds is also very informative with the outdoor text panels.

We were in the area for an event. My 5 month old had not played in 3 days so we took her here to run off energy. This place was great. We intended to play for about 20 minutes but we had so much fun that we left 1 1/2 hours later. A small agility area with equipment. A nice sized stream running through the park so the dogs could go splash through. It was great too if a dog wanted to leave a playgroup and go run with other dogs it was kind of a buffer. There is a wooded area too for the dogs to explore and plenty of space for them to just run. When we got there there was only 2 other dogs. By the time we left there were about 20 however, there is so much space it was not crowded at all. There were several different playgroups too. Not all dogs were in one crazy play fest. We went the day after it poured so there were some wet spots and with the stream our puppy was too happy to get wet and muddy. When we left the park there was a house off area to clean off. That was great since we had a 4 hour ride home. If we lived closer we would be here all the time.

Nice, small little area to feed the ducks. They love it, either from the shore or the boat. Remember bread and crackers aren’t good for them. We cut up grapes, and they love them!

We took our picnic and adult beverages and headed to the hill for a free outdoor concert. Lovely. Reasonable crowd but places for more (not overly crowded). Outdoor toilets, bar, and trashcans available. Large slide available for kids of all sizes. Park along street and walk to venue (no parking for park).
