Wonderful Stay

Reviewed By SWNH

After a hot, uphill walk from Pinhao, arriving at Casa Das Pipas was like entering an oasis in the desert. The guest house of the Quinta do Portal winery is cool, quiet and elegant. Our room was clean and comfortable. Looking out on the vineyard was delightful. Guests can sample the vineyard's wines from two self-serve, honor system, wine coolers, at extremely reasonable prices for a glass or bottle. Add to that friendly staff, good breakfasts and fabulous dinners (at the winery's restaurant) and you have all that is needed for a great stay.

We stayed here as a part of a self guided bike tour. The hotel has a great terrace on the second floor where you can enjoy some food and drink. The staff is super helpful and goes above and beyond (e.g. when I asked if it was too late for cheese and meat board at 23:30, I was given a smile and asked where I wanted to eat it; and they did a load of laundry for us at a reasonable fee). The bathroom was a little snug, and there isn’t a ton of places to eat in town, but the hotel coordinated an affordable local cab. I would definitely stay here again!

Casa dos Barros

Casa dos Barros has different types of rooms, each one with its own decoration, offering you the comfort and cosy feeling of a home family with the services of a small hotel. The recently restored new house was built all around the place where wine used to be done, "the lagares" in the XVIII century. Upstairs there are five bright and sunny bedrooms including two large double bedrooms with views over the lovely secret garden and three smaller bedrooms with big Windows and a beautiful view on the house which was the place of birth of the navigator Magellan. Downstairs there is a comfortable sitting room with a big fireplace for cosy winter evenings. Casa dos Barros has also an apartment that provides the option of relaxing, on your own coach in your private living room cooking in a small kitchen or resting on the suite's outsider terrace which overlooks the garden and has its own private entrance. There is also a large bedroom in the owner's house, just across the garden, the perfect place to feel part of the house. Decorated with period furniture it sends you to the XVIII century with the comfort of the XXI's. Casa dos Barros has always been known by its gardens which are unusual in this region and we are proud of taking care of all these spaces, ourselves. We have our "Secret Garden" surrounded by the house which is the perfect place to sit down reading, drawing or just having a good conversation with a glass of wine, a cup of tea or anything you want to have. In the other garden around the pool we have a big open space surrounded by vineyards which produce our own wine, the place to be catching up our beautiful Portuguese sun. All the outside spaces have bar service and little snacks are served. All rooms with Air conditioned, Private bathrooms, Satellite TV, Tea and Coffe making facilities and complimentary Wi-Fi Internet. Room rates include Continental Breakfast which is served daily from 8:00 a.m. till 10:00 a.m.

Disappointing - would not recommend staying there

The website of Casa dos Barros Winery Lodge promises more than it delivers for guests staying at the hotel. On arrival we could not get into the hotel with the code they sent us as the code had changed but this was not communicated to us. Several guests had this problem. We stayed in the ground floor suite for the first 2 nights which was really cold and musty. Could not connect to the Wi-Fi router in the room as the code provided was incorrect and the staff were unable to help. We moved to a smaller double bedroom on the 3rd night but there was a single duvet for the double bed! The spring mattress was old and uncomfortable. The village clock chimed every quarter hour throughout the day and night and could be heard from the bedrooms. Breakfast was a poor, minimalist, buffet spread with coffee from a dispensing thermos flask. The website shows several photos of the pool with sun lounges overlooking the vineyard. In reality, the pool actually could not be used because several lunch tables were set up around the pool for wine tasting parties of which there were several during the day and every day. Additionally, the sun lounges were removed presumably to discourage staying guests to use the pool because of the wine tasting groups. The owner and the manager of this hotel clearly has no interest in staying guests. It was so disappointing that we could not wait to leave!

With a privileged location, 10 minutes from Pinhão village and 20 minutes from the capital district Vila Real, where all the surrounding is UNESCO World Heritage Site, Casa do Arco Guest Villa appears as a viewpoint in itself. The wide windows open to the exterior, creating the impression of authentic impressionist canvases to those who visit us. The 3 rooms of the House, distinguished by the landscape they transport to the interior, have large and very comfortable beds with sensory luxury finishes.

A good hotel when in the region for any reason. Our room was spacey, had airconditioning, a bathtub and the other usual things. But it was tastelessly furbished and outdated. No wifi in the room. But it was all working to perfection. So, no complaints from me. Breakfast was plentiful.

Para uma pernoita de passagem é razoável

Reviewed By António Manuel S

Encontrei esta casa através do Tripadvisor. Os quartos são grandes, confortáveis e as restantes condições são bastante razoáveis. Deveria estar incluído o pequeno almoço que não foi o caso. Tive de me deslocar à vila. O WC teve de ser partilhado com outro quarto. No meu caso, foi um mal menor, pois estávamos em família. Por tudo isto e, em época baixa como foi o caso, creio que o valor pedido é um pouco excessivo.
