Reviewed By Ken EThis room was a dump. It is very large with a dining and living room area. The cleaning was quite subpar. I moved a basket of well-used towels from the bathroom sink counter and had to wipe a filthy surface with someone's hair. The room is not well-maintained nor clean. The shower only dripped water out when the hot water was turned on. The entire room/bedding smelled of unwashed mildewed linens. From the moment we entered the room it smelled musty. Room 5 was pricey and quite large, between 800-1000 square feet. It is encased almost entirely in windows, adding to its draftiness. Since we are above 7000 ft in elevation, it is cold with nighttime temperatures in the 50's. We have 1 anemic space heater which is completely ineffective at warming the room (sized for a much smaller area of 100-200 square feet). Our room temperature was 65 degrees at 7pm. Extra blankets were provided but one can only huddle beneath the covers. We are very disappointed with the room and would not return. We have no idea whether we have a view as it has been foggy and overcast the entire time. The lighting is quite odd and many light switches don't work. There is no functioning shower light so we bathed before sundown. There are two side lamps-one didn't work. The fireplace is boarded so obviously hasn't been available to heat the room for quite a few years.

Beautiful place around nature, only 3 km away from downtown Alajuela; nice for families and solo travelers, around a coffee plantation. The ambience is quiet and nice; really relaxing in our gardens, free parking. We give you the best advice about rental car and tours.
Disappointing and unprofessional
Reviewed By 2FunChicaUnlike what the policy adivsed, when we arrived at the gate with our two young children and all of our luggage via taxi to check-in there was no response, gate locked, and no response by phone. Not only did they fail to respond at that time, they also failed to advise us of changes to their hours of availability for check-in in advance, and still they charged us for the night! Since we were unable to check-in and were forced to seek out another hotel late at night, and since we were not in violation of their policy, we disputed the charges with Booking.com, and the property still refused to offer a refund to us! We had spent 40 minutes trying to reach someone and enter the property late upon our arrival to the country to no avail. I am not at all in agreement with how these owners handled this situation and can not recommend them for others for this reason. Moreover, this isn't the first time they have disappointed, as they cancelled my husband's reservation on very short notice in the past, creating an inconvenience back then as well. Unreliable, entirely inconsiderate of their guests, and unprofessional in their communication and behavior, I recommend going elsewhere. My husband and I are not new to travel in Costa Rica. My husband is Costa Rican, and our family has both lived and traveled in and out of Costa Rica many times. Even for someone looking for a great deal and affordable spot, one can defintely have a better experience elsewhere!! We will!

The worst place ever for LGBTI people
Reviewed By JonvargastThe place is very nice but the owner looks like he is just keen on money, he is a quiet homofobic and he speak very bad about LGBTI people, I do not recommend this place. Food is good but the stay in the hotel wasnt. I don't recommend this place to anyone

Reviewed By Isabel MWe thoroughly enjoyed our stay here after twice postponing our vacation due to the pandemic. The lodge is situated on the mountainside and has a sweeping view of the valley below, from the main dining area and from all of the rooms (which were very comfortable and clean). Matt, the owner, was a wonderful host who made us feel very welcome and took excellent care of us. He is not currently operating the restaurant, but there are lots of good options nearby. He spoiled us with pastries and coffee before our morning trek to the volcano, and then a full breakfast (delicious!) after our return. We would have happily stayed another night to allow us to explore the surrounding area, but we had a long drive ahead to the coast. We'll have to save that for our next visit. An Excellent and Well Located Place to Stay
Reviewed By TheTraveler888This is a great place to stay and is one of the best values of any place I have stayed anywhere in the world. I spent three night here, and the facilities and food were excellent. The room was large with a fantastic view out the wall-sized window. The nice bathroom was clean with very hot water. The Poas Paradise Hotel is only around 45 minutes or less from the San Juan airport, and the location is close to the Poas Volcano National Park and several coffee tours. The owner and staff were all very helpful with local sightseeing tips and made a reservation for me to visit the La Paz Waterfall Gardens. The included breakfast was very delicious, and I had a salmon dinner here one night that was also excellent. What is also nice is that it is located on a small hill and has its own private road, so the surroundings are quiet and the view is wonderful. This is the place to stay in this area; you will love it.
