We had a lovely stay and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Pity about the internet signal and no wifi in the bedrooms. My son was not well from something he ate and they were very helpful in having meds available.

Cycasia Lodge

Cycasia Lodge beware.

Reviewed By Brigene

We are writing this review after the most horrific, traumatic experience as we were attacked on our first night of a week long stay on our second visit to cycasia lodge. Due to the disgusting responses and complete lack of responsibility on the owners part I have decided to speak up and tell everyone now. Our first stay at Cycasia lodge in Hibeerdeen Durban we were met by the owners who actually sat and had dinner and drinks at our table on several occasions. We felt like part of the family. They did mention the crime being a concern and thus had a night gaurd on duty, an alarm that was activated by 10 in the evening and we were given a panic button as well for our entire stay. Our second visit however we found ourselves alone and were told the owners were overseas. It has several cottages made from one house and we were told that they had been vacated that day and the new bookings were only arriving the following day. Feeling a bit unsettled we decided to turn in early and when one of us came out for a cigarette at about 10.15 a man came from the bushes right through the side gate which had no lock. He walked right up and proceeded to attack a lady with a screwdriver. Events are a bit muddled up but eventually the lady ended up outside the gate he came through about 15 feet away with the attacker who eventually ran away picking up a phone that had been dropped during the struggle. The panick button we had was pressed several times was not working. Thankfully we again pressed it in front of the police and security company to prove this as when someone went to collect the luggage the next morning it was strangely working!!! 3 hours after calling emergency services we finally found the owners number and the security arrived. The lady was black and blue and bleeding from a few wounds thus had to be taken to hospital for stitches in a few different places and when discharged the following morning asked if we could have a refund as she was too traumatized to even go back to pack her luggage and could not possibly drive the long trip home without at least one night's good sleep, only to be told that crime is rife everywhere and their bank accounts had been cleaned out and as they were overseas they would refund 50% apon their return on the 6th of January. This attack took place 28th of December 2019 and to date only a portion of the amount was refunded and not even an offer to help find safer accommodation until everyone could get a good night's sleep as the kids slept outside the hospital with their father as the mom did not want them at the lodge or coming into the hospital to see what had happened. Not to mention she had no medical aid and had to pay the hospital to boot. Needless to say this has left a very bitter taste and the worst feeling of betrayal as people we thought were our friends clearly could not ensure our safety when they were overseas in London nor seemed to actually care we were stranded 8 hours drive from home and too afraid to stay where we had paid for in full until the 4th. We have screenshots of all the conversations and the appointed manager even called and had a beep beep in the background whilst obviously recording portions of the conversation. The father was called to say come collect R3000 cash and when asked why can it not be deposited as he would not be leaving his family and they would not go back to that area, were told no, you have to sign something. I think it is absolutely disgusting that when something like this happens the only concern someone has is to cover themselves instead of help people in desperate need. At least words of comfort and concern even if not from the heart would have been appreciated instead we were treated like criminals and asked if we actually open a case so they could submit it to insurance!!! Which we obviously did. To add insult to injury we were informed that the adjacent property had actually had a burglary of some sort a week before and had to have been on the what's app group they have for the area. As far as I am concerned this did not have to happen if the owners actually took the proper steps to ensure our safety. 2 family members have had to go for counseling and the after affects of what happened that night can not even be explained to be honest. Shame on you Cycasia lodge!!!!!
