Wisconsin River

Eagle viewing especially during cold icy mid-winter superb below the Sauk Prairie Dam when open water becomes scarce and open water persists there. Great viewing at VFW Park/boat launch in Prairie du Sac or at the dam site half a mile upstream. If skiing at Devils Head or Cascade Mountain a 10 to 15 mile trip into Sauk City/Prairie du Sac can be well worth it for the eagle viewing or just the scenic beauty!

Ferry Bluff State Natural Area

Ferry Bluff is a gem many times overlooked by tourists in the area of Sauk City due to lack of information. After a short and not too difficult hike (0.8 mile) through a beautiful forest it offers a breathtaking view of Wisconsin river. I am a tourist who visited recently this place but could not find information I needed on TripAdvisor. I recommend including this attraction in the listing.

There are quite a few bluffs on the Mississippi River on Wisconsin side, where one can enjoy magnificent views of the river. Not so on Wisconsin River. While you will see many a bluff along the river if you're boating down the stream, most of them are apparently in private hands, Ferry Bluff is one of the very few elevated places with the Wisconsin River view. So visit this pleasant exception and enjoy the view! On top of that (pun intended) the Bluff is a roosting area for Bald Eagles, and the access is closed part of the year when eagles roost. This adds to the overall appeal of the place.
