Parque Aventura San Luis

We have zip lined several time before in other places around the world and in Costa Rica. This experience was disappointing compared to our previous times. The staff were less professional and were not as focussed on safety as they should have been. Although they gave a safety briefing at the beginning telling us how important it was for us to be attached to the static lines on the platforms when not zip lining when I arrived on the highest platform my 9 year old son who had gone ahead was not attached to anything and when he had mentioned this to the guide he was told not to worry. Luckily he is a sensible boy and had not taken any risks but it would have been easy for him to fall from the (very high) platform which could have been extremely serious. I attached his carabina to the tree static line and the guide realised that I had noticed and just looked a bit sheepish. Although the forest was beautiful and the zip lining was fun I would recommend looking for another company as there are plenty around.

El Silencio de Los Angeles Cloud Forest Reserve

El Silencio de Los Angeles Walk - Walk around with your head in the clouds as you step into… the heart of the cloud forest with our own nature interpreters who will unveil a secret world of rich tropical life all along this 3 kilometer user-friendly trail. Located right on the hotel property, the trail was created by our hotel’s professional nature guides and is designed to showcase a variety of tropical flora and fauna as it winds its way throughout this rare and incredibly diverse biosphere. As a part of only 2.5% of the planet’s remaining cloud Forests, this unique forest habitat continues to amaze our hotel guests and guides, as well as the trained research scientists from INBio (The National Institute of Biodiversity), who stablished staff the first research station to operate on a hotel property in Costa Rica.

We stayed at Villa Blanca and really enjoyed hiking around the park. It is very beautiful. We took a night tour and saw lots of frogs. This area used to belong to a Costa Rican president who made it into a reserve. Breathtaking!

The entrance fee includes the guided tour and a short lecture program. Please inquire about discounts available to education groups by arrangement. Reservation is required. We will only honor Reservations with advance payment, or which are confirmed by email 24-48 hours prior to the visit. The Garden is open every day by reservation only, from 8 AM through 3 PM.

As a result of our 3 hour private tour with Evelyne and Arturo, we developed a much deeper understanding of the Costa Rican cloud Forests - what makes them unique/distinct, and the threat that they’re under as a result of climate change and other human activity. They also shared the very fine work that they’re doing with several local communities.
Both Arturo and Evelyne are highly knowledgeable and extremely committed to their work. Wonderful, personable, quietly passionate individuals.
This is not a wowie-zowie whiz-bang kind of experience. However, it left a profound and lasting impression on us. We strongly recommend it. Note that it requires an (advance) reservation, which we got very easily on their website.

Museo de San Ramon (Museum of San Ramon)

Small museum containing pre-Columbian items of local history and culture.

This museum, across the street from the park, deserves a quick visit of 15-20 minutes if you are in San Ramon and interested in natural history. Its two small rooms have models and a few fossils of the enormous sloths found in the area about 12,000 years ago. The visual image of seeing them (rather than Reading about 4 ton animals) is worth seeing. The second room has a well-done exhibit of sea turtles.
