Peterhead ( listen (help·info); Scottish Gaelic: Ceann Phàdraig, Scots: Peterheid listen (help·info)) is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is Aberdeenshire's biggest settlement (the city of Aberdeen itself not being a part of the district), with a population of 18,537 at the 2011 Census.

1. Peterhead Prison Museum

Our museum sits in a 6 acre site and visitors walk through time from 1888- 2013. During your tour you will hear how life was "within these walls" through a quality headset which incorporates the voices of ex-staff who worked within the former Victorian prison. At normal pace the tour takes about 1.5 hours, however once in you can spend as long as you want and examine the former prison in detail and at the end of the tour you can visit our newly opened "Refuge Café" named after the Harbour of Safe Refuge which the original inmates supported by breaking granite stones by hand at the nearby Stirlinghill Quarry. Something for all ages to learn from and enjoy. Open daily 10:00-18:00 with last entry being 16:30.

My partner & I took a trip up on a bright but cold winters day. As per other reviews, the warm welcome from the staff was superb. They’re clearly very proud of their museum. This is not an over the top Disney style attraction, but more a matter of fact look at prison life. The individual stories are absolutely fascinating, as was the chance to get a sense of what life was like in a convict prison. We took a couple of hours to go round, & thought it was superb value for money. I bought a couple of the books (& had one signed by the author himself, who was an absolute charmer). Will go back again once I’ve read more. Who knew this was right on our doorstep?! Good advice re wrapping up warm - will do this again on the next visit.

This is really worth every penny of the entrance fee showing what life was like for both prisoners and the guards who had look after them. Wrap up it's cold and go round at your own pace with the audio guide there is a nice cafe and shop at the end of your visit

You can enjoy our craft beer in our bar and see exactly where and how our beers are made as there is a massive window in the bar, overlooking the microbrewery. Pretty cool! We also specialise in artisan coffee and have our own unique blend which is available only in our Brew Toon Cafe bar. Serving snacks and all types of drinks til late!

A Christmas drink with friends, first time I’ve been here, something different for Peterhead. A bit disappointed when were told they were closing at 8pm, especially at this time of the year!

The Peterhead Town Trail offers shorter or longer walks through the lovely town, to the impressive harbour and along the peaceful sea shore. The 21 information panels give the visitor a very varied insight into Peterhead's history, stories, gossip and sensations and helps to understand the town's identity and people's values. The panels make you smile and look at things you would not have noticed at first sight.
I truly enjoyed the trail & recommend it to everyone who likes to combine a lovely walk with learning some inspiring facts and stories of a fishing town community.
Hopefully, there will be more panels up next time I visit.

I was given a flying lesson with Aberdeen Air as a Christmas Gift. The Chief Instructor, Bill Anderson was so friendly, as were all the people we met at the aero club, that we felt very welcome. The school's Piper Warrior seats four so it is possible for two other passengers to accompany the person having the lesson allowing my wife to act as back-seat driver. The school also has a fixed-wing microlight which I may try next.
To see the coast and Aberdeenshire countryside from 1000ft was a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to any one.

I like to collect Scottish football grounds whenever I visit a town with a team. Peterhead FC have played their home matches at Balmoor Stadium since 1997. The stadium has a capacity of 3,150. The unusual fact of Balmoor is that it is the farthest senior league football ground from a railway station. Aberdeen, 32 miles away, is the closest. Buses run every half an hour from Aberdeen and then it takes about 15 minutes to walk up to the stadium from the centre of Peterhead. I'd contacted the club prior to my visit and was able to steal a peek at the pitch when I arrived.

Welcome aboard MV Heather Isle we do fishing trips all year round weather permitting from Fraserburgh through the winter months and Boddam Aberdeenshire during summertime. Trips are minimum 4hrs at cost of £30 per adult, Kids 14yrs and under £15, Rod hire £5 per person if required. Heather Isle has a 20mls COP and insured to carry 12 passengers, also has on board toilet. Typical fish caught are Cod, Ling, Coley and Mackerel but sometimes Haddock, Whiting, Scorpion Fish, Wrasse and Dab.

Your trip aboard the "Misty" leaves from Boddam harbour and you sail around Buchaness lighthouse(The most Easterly point in Scotland) continuing south in-between Craig Snow and over the wrk of the Aberdeenshire where you can almost touch the cormorants with your hands as u pass through, after u pass DunDonnie u will feast your eyes on the hiddin treasure of Longhaven shore where there's over 100ft cliff stacks full of nesting seabirds, Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Puffins, Razorbills, Guillemot's, Cormorants & Shags etc. "Major photo opportunity" From there u continue south and pass inside the "Picker Rock" a large pointed rock protruding from the sea bed where there's usually Cormorants stretching out their wings to dry "quite a sight and beauty in nature" Brings a smile to your face and a warmth to your heart to be so close to nature :) Your tour continues south to the Bullers o Buchan' a wee old fishing Hamlet with its own wee shore, "Would love to stay their!! Then you sail around Dunbuy (looks like an Elephants head from a certain angle) get your cameras ready!! :) once around Dunbuy u will see the famous Slaines Castle or "Draculas Castle" so named after Brams Stoker had wrote his novel Dracula whilst staying at a local hotel and had been visiting this castle at the time! After Slaines castle the Misty takes you into Ward Bay where you can see Cruden Bay' or Port Errol!! Its at this point the Misty turns and heads back north and you are presented with a mug of complementary Tea or Coffee :) Misty has a set of Binoculars for each passenger to use free on the trip so you can take a closer look at the wildlife, If your lucky you might have a pod of Dolphins swim along with you but on our trip we had the pleasure of spotting some wee Porpoises that were too shy to come to the boat! All in All Massive good value for your pennies at £15 per person for the two hour trip!! Highly Recommended and well worth staying at a local hotel or B&B just for this alone! But Remember' this is weather permitting.
P.S. The Skipper of the Misty is a very down to earth guy and puts you at ease and makes you very welcome aboard his vessel' although the local Dialect ie "Doric" can at times be hard to understand it overflows with the richness and culture of this area and is warmly Welcoming!!
Good value for money and not to be missed!! Ten out of Ten!! :):)
