This is an amazing lifetime experience; thrills guaranteed from start to finish. Well organised and planned by Alexis from start to finish a great day spent blasting through the Moroccan desert regions with sights that will stay with us forever.
From isolated villages with children rushing out to greet you (and give you five) to amazing views in the Agafay Desert travelling almost vertical at times at very high speed with screams a plenty.
After booking our trip to Morocco we wanted to book an adrenalin rush and discovered Raid Buggy following a search on-line. We contacted Alexis, who was very helpful, and made an advanced booking to make the Lac Takerkoust and Agafay desert Raid. We were picked up at 8 am in the Medina and taken to the Buggies, our adventure began shortly. First stop was tea and pastries with honey, then onwards to Lake Takerkoust for Lunch with amazing views. Back in the buggy for a blast through the desert, hang on to your phone though as my iPhone is currently residing in the dunes! We then made our back across the planes and were privileged to see true rural Morocco. Returned to base around 4.30pm and then delivered back to the Medina in Marrakech by 5pm.
Recommended to anyone looking for a break from the insanity that is Marrakech. If we come back to Morocco it will be to see Alexis and book a 3 day Raid to see more of this beautiful country and possibly the Sahara.

Jarjeer Mules

Jarjeer can be found in the Berber village of Oumnass just 24 kms south of Marrakech in the foothills of the High Atlas. We are a sanctuary and home to many animals. Our team of magical donkeys are friendly and always very happy to see visitors. The local people are friendly and welcoming. The community is very close with tight family ties and the culture remains traditional. All our muleteers live in the village. Transport can be arranged. Please contact us by email. For the adventurous, a bus journey is an excellent idea. The number 45 bus to Amizmiz leaves the bus station opposite the Koutoubia Mosque. Local people in the Medina will be happy to direct you. The journey takes approximately 30 mins and costs just 6 dms per head, ask to dismount at Oumnass. If you telephone or email in advance we will meet you at the bus stop in Oumnass or you will see the sign to Jarjeer as leave the bus. Note: Here at Jarjeer our donkeys provide therapeutic riding for disabled children.

Having been to Morocco many times this has to be my most favourite thing ever.
The work that the wonderful Susan & Charles and their fantastic team do is incredible and awe inspiring.
There are animals everywhere and this family run charity is a great place to be.
I will be forever grateful for their kindness and am blown away by the work they do.
A must do!!!

After a couple of days in Marrcech we (middle age couple) decided mid-afternoon that we could take a day out of our short break to do something different. After a little internet research we decided to contact BTA to see if they could arrange something for us at short notice the next day. We spoke to the (very helpful) Jamal who was unfortunately busy but his colleague Noureddine (Nori) would be able to take us into the Atlas Mountains foothills on the 'heavy' walking tour, including morning tea and lunch in a Berber village. A taxi picked us up at 7:30 from our Riad and drove us into a town near the Mountains. This is where we met Jamal (a lovely guy) and Nori (a gentle giant). We walked into the Mountains along trails that only had locals, goats and mules for company. It was fantastic. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. We finished walking about 4pm, having started about 9am. Wear good shoes, it is a real trail. We met lovely people and came back educated and with a sense of authenticity that is normally so hard to find. Lastly, if Nori is your guide you will not be disappointed.

Amizmiz Trekking - Day Tours

Reviewed By mec6320

I lived in Marrakech, Morocco for eight months, studying Arabic at a local language center, and in the last few weeks of my time there, went on a four day excursion into the Atlas Mountains with my fellow classmates, with Latifa as our guide. This trip, without a doubt, was my favorite experience in Morocco. We hiked from Amizmiz into the mountains- eating lunch on the way in and sleeping in Amazigh families' homes; eating dinner & breakfast and spending time with them after long days of hiking. The families were so kind, so generous, so welcoming- truly some of the best people I've met in my life- Though communication was difficult, as they speak almost exclusively Tashelhit (a dialect of the Amazigh language), with the help of Latifa, I was able to learn a lot about the lifestyle of the Amazigh mountain people. The hiking itself is gorgeous- not too hard, but not too easy either- I was always ready for a big pot of tagine or couscous at the end of the day! And last but not least- Latifa, whose name means kindness in Arabic, fits that perfectly- though she is a tough, strong woman too. She told us on the first day that she sees us, her clients, as her own children. I could tell that she truly cared for each of us deeply. (When we "graduated" from our Arabic program the following week, she came to our ceremony- it was a special moment for all of us) Not only was she absolutely kind, but so funny and intelligent too. I fully trusted her knowledge of the Mountains, and knew she would take the best care of us during our trip. Thank you to Latifa for one of the most educating, exciting, and beautiful experiences of my life.

Marrakech Souk

Reviewed By weatherwax1 - Chesterfield, United Kingdom

First came here some years ago, maybe 2008, and not really looking forward to it. Memories of a crowded place, jumping for your life as a motorbike roared past, being hassled in shops if you ventured in, rude and hostile populace. Very much changed now. I think there's now a different attitude to westerners and in the main found the people pleasant and courteous, especially in the attitude of the men towards women. The motor bikes are still there, and the handcarts and donkey carts, but now you are given fair warning and the shopkeepers are far less aggressive. Therefore you can take your time and look at all the wonderful hand-crafted articles for sale. Recommended.
