Hardy is an unincorporated community lying in Bedford County, Franklin County, and Roanoke County Virginia, United States, about twenty miles southeast of Roanoke. The community is near the Booker T. Washington National Monument, which commemorates where Booker T. Washington was born in 1856. It is also the home place of Jubal Anderson Early, who was born near the bottom of Windy Gap Mountain.

Booker T. Washington National Monument

Located in Franklin County, this is the site of the famous educator's slave cabin and birthplace.

This is where Booker T. Washington was both born and set free. There is a nice picnic area with tables and grills. This is a very nice section of Virginia. It is about one hour off of the freeway from Roanoke and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There was also a lake and the National D Day memorial close by.

Wow! Well worth the visit! We knew from other reviews that it was a good possibility that we would enjoy this place and boy-we were not disappointed! What an amazing opportunity and learning experience! Mr Jay was a one man show and did an EXCEPTIONAL job! He’s a gifted and passionate teacher that relates well to all ages, just a great guy! Only sad part of the day was when we had to say goodbye. Such amazing creatures!!
