Every summer since 1925, all of the feral ponies on Assateague are rounded up for the world-famous annual Pony Swim over to Chincoteague.

This park belongs to all American taxpayers. The staff at the park are friendly, extremely knowledgeable & happy to interact with visitors. Wildlife/bird watching is excellent. There are beautiful gently sloping beaches and untold miles of hiking/biking trails. This fabulous park offers many activities to all interested visitors. The welcome center is loaded with exhibits,explanations of what to expect, demonstrations& a wealth of information. Staff is there to guide your visit & answer questions, & insure your safety while enjoying the park. This is another of America’s incomparable resources set aside to preserve the habitat, animals who live there & for us to take away new understanding of our place in nature. Come see this exceptional place .... it belongs to all of us

The museum is not very big but is full of information about life in Chincoteague. We were there for over 3 hours. Definitely take part in the scavenger hunt while you're there. It's fine and you have a chance to win something.

Biking the island is a favorite activity of ours when we visit the island. It's great exercise and a nice way to see the island. We always rent from the Bike Depot. It's a convenient location and they fit you with the right sized bike. Prices are very reasonable. I recommend wearing bug spray. The island doesn't spray chemicals to control bugs, it's a nature preserve.

The Captain Timothy Hill House was built circa 1800 and is the oldest known house on Chincoteague Island. Originally built to have a wooden chimney...the replication of that chimney is now in place. Listed on The National Register of Historic Places and The Virginia Landmarks Register in 2011...a visit to this house is a step back in time to the early life on the island. Open to the public during the summer season with tours on Fridays 1-3 PM and additionally Wednesdays in July 1-3 PM. Other times by appointment. Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated.

Our tour guide kept mentioning the need to visit the historic Hill House which I expected some sea captains old home but it is a small cabin. The interesting thing about THIS cabin were the boat carvings around the outside of the cabin. The interior was a glimpse into the past days of Chincoteague Island. It won't take long to view the cabin. I MUST see? Maybe if one has exhausted other Island visits.

We found this place by accident while waiting for our room to be ready, and we were both happy. The place have lots of seating area overlooking the water and quiet. Good place to relax and enjoy and breathe the fresh air after a long drive.

The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance is a non-profit arts organization that was established in 2005. We went from having a handful of free events (like the Second Saturday Art Stroll and Plein Art Show and Sale), to now producing over 100 events a year. In December 2015, we finally purchased our home at 6309 Church Street that we had been renting since 2011. CCA is a very busy organization and is 100% volunteer. Some of our programs include: -Annual Plein Art Show and Sale -Chincoteague Island Theatre Company performances, dinner theatre, play readings, and more -Annual Photo Contest -Farmers Market Weekly from April-October -Second Saturday Artful Flea from April-October -Holly Day Market -Monthly Island Coffeehouse -Classes in everything from theatre to ballet to watercolor painting and much more -Saturday Morning Kid Art Class -Mother Earth Day Festival -Music at the Dock concerts in Robert Reed Park -Movies in the Park at Robert Reed Park -"Hear a Story, Share a Story" Storytelling nights. Great community grassroots Org that tauts: BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH THE ARTS. Tonight's concert/coffeehouse is sold out STANDING ROOM ONLY! Beatles music.
They feature art shows and sales, storytelling, coffeehouses and have a farmers market 2x weekly.
Great concept. They got a check for $50,000.00 tonight. May it flourish.

After a wonderful pontoon boat tour around Chincoteague and Assateague Islands, my friend and I found our way to Tryfan Gallery. We went based on other Trip Advisor 5 star reviews. We were not disappointed!!! The artist and his wife were lovely people. The art was representational and one watercolor nearly leapt off the walls and followed me to my car. It is now happily hanging on my living room wall and my husband who was not on this trip, was wholeheartedly supportive of my purchase. I now have a beautiful reminder of my day in Chincoteague gracing my walls. Thank you to Dan for his beautiful, yet affordable artistry.
