Our family took sometime out from our holiday celebration to attend the Purple Rose's production of God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza. The cast included Rusty Mewha, Kate Thomsen, Paul Strolli and Michelle Mountain.

This was our second trip to the Purple Rose. Last year with Michelle Mountain in Morning After Grace by Carey Crim.

It was an eclectic story about the parents of two children with got in a fight.

A simple format containing powerful lines and provoking images that tug at the mind and the heart. It was fast paced, energetic and mentally challenging. It asks the question: "What is your ethos?........Are you sure?"

Stop by and see it :)

Waterloo Recreation Area

The Waterloo recreation area is a great place to hike, fish or go boating with many miles of walking trails and lots of lakes with public access. The Gerald Eddy Discovery Center is a good place to start your excursion with many loop trails in the vicinity. Suggest the short Bog Trail or the longer out-and-back Hickory Hills trail. For a shorter trek, try the Hickory Hills loop from the park headquarters.

The Chelsea Treehouse

Reviewed By jimgreiner - Fenton, Michigan

Our young grandchildren love the fast food restaurants with playscapes. The Tree House is Playscape Heaven! The largest that we have ever seen and easily multiple times the size of the largest we have seen.

It was obviously engineered to work for children with different levels of physical ability. We brought our youngest five (2 aged 1, 2 aged 3, 1 aged 6) on a midday visit on a Monday. Every one of them had a blast. We even saw a few adults navigate the largest playscape with their children, though it would be very difficult for anyone over five feet tall (or 29 years old!).

The largest playscape has multiple levels, so was enjoyed by the oldest as well as (amazingly, in a small portion) one of our one year olds. The four long, side-by-side slides at the end are the most fun. There is a small area set up for one year olds as well, along with an enclosed ball area with many soft rubber balls for kicking and throwing, and another area set up for toddlers. With the exception of tables, almost everything else in the huge waiting area is padded, including a huge number of overstuffed couches.

They run a limited restaurant with coffee, drinks, and a good food selection -- 8 different large sandwich selections are priced at $7.50; also a number of pizza selections. Our total cost for about three hours, including food for five children and four adults (free adult admission), was about $80, so somewhat more than Chuck E Cheese (though a very different and physical kind of fun).

Ugly Dog Distillery

We heard about this business from friends and decided to take the tour. It was about $10.00 per person with a Groupon. The business is small. A one room operation. The tour consisted of one of the owners, Dewey, explaining the operation and how they got started. It was interesting and he is quite a people person, interacting with the tour group well. They already are recognized as a fine distillery with award winning products. We did purchase a couple of their vodkas to try at home. Sorry, no free samples after the tour.
