If you are close to Anamur and have any interest in history you have to visit Anemurium! It is beautiful and not so touristic, this means that in a spring day you can explore the area almost by yourself. Even if youre not interested in history it's a perfect place to stroll around and if it gets to hot the sea is just a few meters away.

For all those who will visit Marmure castle this summer : it is closed due to renovations. You could just walk around the castle, what is still nice to do, but not the same as visiting the castle. Also look out for hasslers at the other side of the street who try told you that you an leave your car at their parking, which is free. But after your (short) visit you have to drink and eat something at their (dirty) restaurant. We just drink anything, and had to pay a very high price. You can park your car totally free before the castle, or at the overside before the old Marmure Hammam of the castle, which is more than a visit worth. A juwel, very well conserved. One of the pictures below is of the restaurant where we had to pay a high price for a few beers and a tea.

Anamur Museum

If you´re planning to spend a really quiet holiday in a place where there are not lots of tourists and you love Turkey – we can recommend you to spend it in Anamur, the southernmost point of the country and home of bananas. The city is about 60 kms from Alanya on the way to Mercin, approximately on the halfway between airports of Antalya and Adana. Of course – it isn´t a short way from the airport to Anamur (about 6-8 hours) but you´ll find there everything you need for really placid time to relax. Comfortable hotels and pensions, good and not expensive restaurants, extremely friendly Turkish people, clear sea and wonderful beach just unlike the tourist centres which you can see everywhere – with lots of sunbeds and umbellas and people as much as pismires. And when you´ll be full of swimming and laying on the beach, you can visit historical places as the ancient Anemurium or the crusarder Mamure Castle.
We recommend to come to Anamur at least for a week but it´s worth staying there two weeks and more – to have a real relax. It´s the best place for those who are not looking for disco and such things, and who like walking and love nature. Don´t forget to take good shoes! And if you rent a car in Anamur, you can see much more from the surroundings.

A fantastic trip! We had knowen nothing about it before we came to Anamur, only that it should exist. And nobody couldn´t tell us how to get there, even the director of the Anamur Museum didn´t know the way. Now we know why - there is not any way, just a foot-path through the woods on the hills. The favourable and very helpfull owner of Zeytin appartments, where we lived, was so kind to take us with his car to the end of the road and then we went about half an hour (maybe more) in the direction that showed us sheep-herds down the hill. We didn´t meet anybody during the whole trip - up and down midst trees and shrubs, we didn´t know if we´d find it... and then we saw the first stones of the walls behind us on an other close hill! It was really worth going there, we have never visited any other antique ruine like that. We are going to spend there the whole day next time, to have time enough for better screening and to absorb the spirit of the place. We really recommend this trip - you need only good shoes, much watter and to be well disposed even if you aren´t sure where to go...

One of the few attractions around Anamur. Finding the right road leading to it is a challenge but one on the right road it is a pleasant trip. The cave is located on the top of a hill inside heavy Forests and contains interesting rock formations. Having a tea or coffee in the cafe outside it is equally pleasant.
