Devenish Silo Art

Here on display are the fabulous silo paintings done by Melbourne artist Cam Scale of a WWI Nurse, a modern Combat Medic and a Lighthorseman with his Steed. North Vic Trails is a Non Profit Community Group consisting of people from small towns. We are trying to help our rural regional towns suffering in the current climate especially after the drought and bushfires and now COVID 19 restrictions. Through promoting the silo art, other artworks and features for small town communities we hope to increase tourism to the northern regions of Victoria. So come visit us, stay for a bit and enjoy the many fabulous sights we have to offer.

Benalla Botanic Gardens

Reviewed By Crystalline4u - Traralgon, Australia

There is something heartwarming about meandering through Botanical Gardens... this garden invites you to explore. It's set on the edge of a lake, has extensive rose gardens, a Hec Waller memorial, a Weary Dunlop statue, the War Memorial... so very much to see while you wander through at a leisurely pace. "Luxurious man, to bring his vice in use, Did after him the world seduce, And from the fields the flowers and plants allure, Where nature was most plain and pure." - Andrew Marvell You could journey here many times and find something new and unique to the area... and watch as the garden bursts forth it's hidden pleasures. There is a children's playground with a rocket. The following day I had a discussion with the lady working in the Visitor Centre in Yarrawonga and she had fond memories of the rocket in the playground area... her words were, "Either I grew larger, or it grew smaller over time...but I recall it fondly".

Lake Benalla Walking Track

Reviewed By Crystalline4u - Traralgon, Australia

The first time I walked around this lake was with my mother about thirteen years ago... it was quite beautiful with rose gardens. Fast forward to recent times and I visited again. My memory is imprinted a little differently to the landscape that is there now. It's been slightly altered and Benalla continues to evolve as a rural town making it a place to go. It is now a destination in itself. The 4.25 kilometre track is stunning. You can choose how much of it you want to walk, or you can take advantage of the seating along it's edge taking a break to enjoy the breathtaking serenity. Lake Benalla provides habitat for numerous birds from ducks and pelicans to cockatoos and kookaburras and you will definitely see them here. When I wandered around here it was late in the afternoon on a Friday and I was surprised there were not more people taking advantage of this beautiful area...but then, Covid has changed things so much. .. Still it's worth masking up and going for a walk.

Whilst this was officially opened in 2010-- the project began in 1983... and once you wander around the sculptures... you will understand why. It's so whimsical and interesting... you turn a corner to notice something unique and quirky. This is set on the shore of Lake Benalla ... and it's definitely worth stopping to look at. For children and for adults alike, this will evoke your curiosity and return you to a time where your imagination reigned. It's an incredible place to stop and spend some time when you are in Benalla.

The volunteer staff at the Information Centre in Benalla are always helpful and friendly, and are led by the excellent Tourism Officer. The Information Centre is always clean and neat, as are the toilets, and I was glad to be able to find items on the entire region very easily. Remember to take a look at the wonderful little museum whilst you are there too.
