Liang Beach

Reviewed By rendrahertiadhi - Jakarta, Indonesia

The Liang Beach is a nice beach to stop by while visiting Ambon. It lies in the north part of Ambon island, not too far from the Tulehu harbour. The view to the sea is fantastic, a good place for beach photography. This beach is mostly visited by the locals. Many small shops selling simple food and drinks are available. Public facilities such as shower and toilet are also available. You may need to ask the locals about sunbathing with swimsuit to avoid breaking the local customs. A lot of big trees around the location, nice shade from the sun.

Lubang Buaya Morella Beach

Reviewed By Footprints792256

Morella Beach is not a beach, but stilted coffee houses over the water. There are 1/2 dozen of these. There's a nominal entrance fee. We saw hat we thought were a cross between a chicken and a duck. Chuck perhaps. The entrance is a narrow path, down a hill, along a creek. There's another beach if that's what you want, not far up the road. We found swimming was no good at low tide and the flies atrocious. Morella beach, because of it's dock like access to the water was better for our snorkeling needs. The small inlet or bay has a small shelfed reef that turns into a wall into oblivion. You can't see the bottom further out. We snorkeled as far as the next beach, I referenced earlier. Visibility was clear and endless. Because of this very quiet area on Ambon's northeast coast, the reefs are pristine. The fish, large, small, in schools or solo, were plenty and colorful. The reef and wall had very healthy hard and soft corals. We saw a couple large black tip sharks. These sharks a timid. We were lucky to get a good view. There's no lodging out here to be found online. However there's a few primitive huts or homestays with signs out front that offer rooms. While I'd love to stay out here for the daily snorkeling, there are few if any restaurants. If one were to rent a scooter, there's a small town further up the coast, and I would love to explore more here. The birds singing were unique. Ambon has far more to offer than a city and ferry terminal.

Sacred Eels of Waai

Reviewed By JoostN - Groningen, The Netherlands

I do not know if the eels are sacred, but at least they are really cute! Seeing them coming out of the holes you will be able to feed them the eggs (of course you have to pay for the egs), and then you can also touch the eels and hold them. They feel so soft and do not harm you. I felt really positive after this experience and would recommend everyone going here and experience the same good vibes.
