Dorobo Safaris

Dorobo’s real niche is providing safaris with a source experience for clients that connects with local people, wildlife and landscapes. We offer a wide range of safaris from luxury lodges to smaller mobile camps that can access some of Tanzanias true wilderness areas. The focus of our trips is to give a well rounded experience where one can walk, interact with local communites, view Africas best wildlife, and offer true wilderness experiences. We specifically tailor safaris that cater for individual groups needs and interests. Not only camping but also walking in the bush provides a great complement to the amazingly close encounters one has on traditional vehicle game viewing drives. Often shadowed by the the wildlife and parks, Tanzania is rich in culture with over 120 different ethnic groups. Among these are the Maasai, Hadzabe, Datoga, Iraqw, in which Dorobo Safaris has long term relationships with these communities, where tourism has acted as an important source of income whilst allowing guests to interact and learn from these colorful people.

We were looking for an escape from Covid which was safe & fun ..... and found Dorobo Safaris! Away from the Covid Chaos we enjoyed the amazing African wildlife up close & personal and observed behaviour only really accessible on foot. In 10 days, we visited Oldonyo Sambo Conservation area, Tarangire NP, Lake Manyara & Ngorongora Crater. All fantastic and quite empty so we saw so much without being distracted with other cars /tourists etc. The excitement of getting so close to wildlife was complimented with the luxury of having our tent set up on arrival to our mobile camps, with a hot water shower & cold drinks. Everything was organised so well & we really enjoyed the support crew & Masaai hosts/guides. We learnt a lot including that some of our money goes directly to the communities which allowed us to enjoy their lands & support eco tourism & education. We have so many stories, fantastic photos and memories. Every day was special and unique and we were so pleased we chose to travel at this time. Less tourists and more animals around. Killerai, our guide, was incredibly well educated in the local flora and fauna. He was genuinely passionate about all we saw and we would love to go on another walking safari with him. Everyone we met and who were involved with Dorobo were friendly, kind and respectful to each other and the environment. Dorobo have an excellent reputation in Arusha and really look after many different projects. Highly recommend!! (especially in Covid times).

Mount Meru

Reviewed By Faraji_Mustafa - Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Being the first visitor since Zara closed down in March 2020, it felt so good and memorable. Despite the fact that I was alone, I never felt lonely. The charming and hardworking Zara staffs were all there for me since the day they came to pick me up from Kilimanjaro International Airport, my Stay at Springlands Hotel, during the climb and finally the departure day. Mr. Timoth, the receptionist, thank you so much for being such a good coordinator in making sure that I had a wonderful and unforgettable experience during my stay at Springlands Hotel. Many thanks to Mr. Jeff, the Springlands Hotel Chef and his team for serving me delicious and healthy foods. I'll never forget the discussions we had on what should and should not be incorporated in my meals. Mr. Emmanuel, an experienced guide and his team were more than friendly during the two days we spent up and down the Mountain. Can't thank you enough. The great care that you and your team gave me made me feel at home during the adventure! The success of reaching Meru Summit and later Little Meru Summit before going down the mountain will always be a wonderful experience. This was my third time that I went in the adventure with Zara tours as I climbed Kilimanjaro Mountain in 2018 (Marangu Route) and 2019 (Machame Route) through Zara. The exceptional services offered by this company have always exceeding my expectations. Thank you so much, keep it up!!! Lastly, I truly appreciate the safety measures which Zara put in place with regards to COVID -19 prevention. I couldn't feel that much safer anywhere else before......
