We drove here on a rainy day in January. We met Audrey the owner who gave us some great background on the syrup production process and we tasted the different grades (lighter delicate flavour and darker stronger flavour) of syrup. Hands down best maple syrup I ever had and we bought some of each type to bring home. Highly recommend a visit here, lovely people and a great product.

We stayed a night in Stowe during the peak color season and this drive was recommended to us. We are so glad we did it. It was gorgeous! We had limited time so we were very disappointed we didn't get to experience more of this area. We made it to Smugglers Notch though and captured some beautiful shots. The road is very winding up there. It was super windy and we watched the leaves getting blown off the trees. We definitey recommend this scenic drive.

When you arrive at the entrance gate, they will give you a lecture on how to get up and down safely. PAY ATTENTION TO IT! The road is narrow, has no guard rails, and if you don't listen to the gate person you will burn out your brakes. In fact, check your brakes before you think about going. At the top, generous sized parking lot allows you to take the hiking trail along the spine of Mansfield as far as you want, doubling back when ready. The trail is Moderate for a half mile or so, then goes to Strenuous when you start climbing rocks. It is one of my favorite trails in the entire state, so worth the drive--and worth the pricey entrance fee if you can't hike 10 strenuous miles on your own. But I saw kids hiking with flip flops, which is not recommended. Also, expect bad weather. It was sleeting (Oct. 1) when we arrived but cleared up within an hour.

This church is as gorgeous on the outside as it is on the inside. The artwork is so unique and beautiful. It is dedicated to Fr. Damien and his work with the lepers in Hawaii. We were lucky that it was open when we visited and had the chance to see the incredible stained glass windows as well. I would love to come back again and attend mass here. Really incredible place!

The Giles Dewey Bridge was recreated a little while ago when the main bridge at the Mountain Road intersection was replaced. They did a very good job. You can see the craftsmanship and care that went into building something sturdy but old-school. It's only a short bridge, so walk slowly, stop in the middle and take in the scenery if you can. It's well worth it at any time of the year.

We’ve seen some quaint covered wooden bridges in Vermont. Emily’s bridge was my favorite because there wasn’t any other tourist around, it was quiet and peaceful, simple, and has an interesting story. Did Emily commit suicidal or got thrown off her horse and die? We got there just before sunset. As I was reading the sign, I felt my husband’s presence behind me. When I turned around, he wasn’t behind me. He was in front of the bridge taking pictures. I took several pictures and a few pictures looked like there was a fuzzy spot in them. Could it be Emily’s ghost? We’ll never know.
