While many visitors come for the beaches, arts celebrations and fiestas, San Sebastian-Donostia is serious about its food and drink. The Old Quarter’s narrow, winding streets are full of bars and restaurants, and in the modern city, sidewalk cafes are all around. The city specializes in seafood. Just make sure you know not to expect dinner at 6 or 7 p.m.—that’s much too early in Spain. Instead, tide yourself over with tapas, and enjoy eating and drinking late into the night.

A modern iron sculpture by Eduardo Chillida embedded in the rocks at the water's edge.
A romantic place where the waves of the sea, iron, stone, wind and sculpture originality come together. A nice walk by the sea.

This beautiful park, albeit it is called a Plaza, is bounded on all four sides by roads but once you are inside it you are oblivious to any traffic noise. This park has it all, lots of different types of trees and plants, a small waterfall, a pond with ducks and swans, a wooden bridge, some statues, a pavilion and a large multicoloured flower clock. Take a seat on one of the numerous benches and just enjoy the surrounds for a while. Even though the weather was inclement and it was cool we enjoyed our time here.

River that separates the old/new town with various crossing points just watch the water ebb and flow and the waves crashing into the entrance of the river.

We didn't linger long but passed through the space to experience it. Very unique in that you can still see the numbers for each balcony when it was a public bullring. Even if you lived in one of the apartments, you were obligated to allow others to use your balcony during an event! There were pintxos bars in the space with tables to sit and watch the world go by, but we had already eaten. Maybe next time we'd stop and sit down for some Sangria.
