8 Playgrounds in Auckland That You Shouldn't Miss

February 8, 2022 Tambra Mccollister

The Māori call Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau — a maiden desired by 100 lovers, and a valuable territory fought over for centuries for its fertile land and natural harbors on the Pacific Ocean (to the east) and Tasman Sea (to the west). Today, it’s New Zealand’s largest city: A vibrant and diverse place where nature and urban life go hand-in- hand, with 48 volcanic cones, more than 50 islands, and 29,000 km of coastline and beaches just minutes away from the arts and shopping of the central city.

Takapuna Beach Playground

Reviewed By TakingTheATrain - Wellington, New Zealand

This amazing playground is situated right by Takapuna beach, which means that you can have a play in the playground and then have a dip in the water. You could actually spend all day here, which is what we did with our family on a weekday in January 2021. It was very busy when we arrived. Car parking can be an issue if you're looking for street parking, so we parked at a paid parking lot right across the road from the playground. There are picnic tables and seating scattered around the playground. The playground equipment is suited to a number of ages. There is one massive climbing structure which was great for those who weren't afraid of heights! The beach is right there and has life guards which is great. Very tidy beach, and there is a tap for washing yourself / drinking water. The downside are the toilets / changing rooms which are not the most clean or tidy, and are very dark. The playground is just a block away from the shops, including a supermarket.

We thought our 1 year old was too young for this place but we were wrong! There are many areas for small children and she could use everything apart from going down on the big slides! She had lots of fun, we were exhausted by the end! But it does get very crowded, way too many kids running around!

What a lovely little Auckland pool, very sunny and warm water, loved the areas and options it had. It was great as kids are free, so very inexpensive. Would definitely go again.
