8 Historical & Heritage Tours in Belmopan That You Shouldn't Miss

June 10, 2021 Russell Mellin

Smaller and more intimate than popular resort areas such as San Ignacio and Belize City, the modest capital of Belmopan is nonetheless a vibrant city surrounded by stunning scenery and wildlife. Next to the bustling Market Square, Independence Plaza is home to the prime minister's offices, various pedestrian pathways and the National Assembly Building, designed to resemble a Mayan temple. Outside the city lay the spectacular Guancaste Park as well as the astonishing Hummingbird Highway.

The resort offers such a unique experience. The treehouse rooms are amazing. The view from every room was incredible! We ordered “tea service” in the mornings which was coffee and juice and pasties delivered to our roof deck early in the morning to watch the jungle awaken. Food was great and the excursions were wonderful. The best part of this resort is the outstanding staff. They could not have been more welcoming and invested in making our trip special. A special shout out to Marco, the best bartender around, server Tanya and guides Pedro and Marvin. Pedros’ enthusiasm and depth of Mayan knowledge and Marvin’s ability to identify every bird near and far were both exceptional! Great experience!!!!!

We had a fabulous day fishing with Captain Jack and the dude! They were both just delightful and knowledgeable. The day started with a pickup from our resort by boat where they explained what would happen throughout the day and what we needed to know. We then headed out to the barrier reef area, stopping to net sardines to use for barracuda fishing and then later for bottom fishing. We fished for barracuda, tried a number of places, had bites but no hits. Then we moved on to bottom fishing and started slow. Captain Jack know a LOT of fishing places and we tried many of them. If we didn't get bitesbwithin a few minutes, we moved on. We caught a fair amount of Yellowtail snapper and one beautiful red snapper. We definitely got our money's worth! When we got back Jack and the dude filleted the fish for us and chatted about what they!to do. Our hotel cooked the fish for us and served it up three different ways, all delicious. Thanks to these two men for the delightful day! We highly recommend these two and their company.
