Dome of Soltaniyeh (Soltaniyeh Cupola)

Reviewed By Randall K - Canberra, Australia

As we were driving towards this building it certainly stood out on the landscape. Quite dramatic architecture from the outside. Once inside it was impressive, with beautiful tilework and design. Restorations are still underway inside, so be prepared for scaffolding, etc. We climbed the stairs to walk around the top section, and up close to the brickwork it was quite impressive. Well worth a leisurely visit - take your time to appreciate this historic building.

Salt men Museum

Reviewed By LouenStephan - Belgium

The museum has some archeological pieces from places in the Zanjan province. It is a good visite if you are interested in archeology. At the end there is a room where some of the salt mummys are displayed and where you can find information about. But not all the salt mens are here, there is also one in The archeological museum of Tehran.
No pictures in this room.

Rakhtshooy Khaneh Edifice

Reviewed By Rich C

Rakhtshoy-Khaneh is a traditional Qajar era laundry house and is today Zanjan's Museum of Anthropology. The laundry house was built in 1926. The unique, unmarked Rakhtshoy-Khaneh is a dome-and-column subterranean hall whose water channels were originally constructed as a public laundry-place. It’s dotted with wax washerwomen to remind you how life was before Electrolux and Zanussi. There’s also a calm garden courtyard.

Hosseiniyeh Mosque

Reviewed By EhsanYP - Lisbon, Portugal

This place is mostly well known for its famous annual mourning parade in Muharram month(a sacred month in lunar calendar between shia muslims). The mosque organizes this event each year and around 1 million people attend the event. Even people from neighbor countries gather on this event on that special date and make different type of donations. The building itself is situated in the southern part of the city in a very traditional neighborhood. The main building is quite an old one(with almost 150 years of history behind it) and recently thanks to donations from people they extended the building and make some renovations inside it. If you want to see some islamic architecture and get more info regarding its parade, it is a very good place to stop by.

Driving from the main hwy Zanjan to Tabriz you turn off and head for Mahneshan and along the way you will see amazing colored Mountains [better than Tabriz ] and sleepy villages. Just a few klms south of Mahneshan is these amazing rock Castles. The best one is next to the river. Local name i think is Kohan Dezh.

Katalekhor Cave

Reviewed By mahdi g

Katalekhor Cave is located at South- East of Zanjan city ( the center of Zanjan province ) with about 145 km distance but, you need to 2 hours ( at least ) for reaching to it. There are two possible route for going there from Zanjan.
1. Gheidar route
2 . Bijar route
It is important to know that the Gheiar route is really better than other one. However in Gheidar route you can visit the Soltaniyeh Dom ( the highest brick Dom of the world ). In this route you have to pass the Gheidar ( Khodabandeh ) city , so you can prepare what you need. Of course there are some restaurants and small coffee shops at Garmab town and beside the cave.
Don't forget that cave is open from 8 pm till to 4 am for visiting and you need at least 1 hour to do this. I think describing of cave is impossible and you have to visit it's beauty's.
Notice that inside the cave is cool and my suggestion is that to get a sweater for yourself.
