Only a bus ride from centre of town. Exceptionally knowledgeable tour guide talked us through the Chateau's history. Private collection of wine dating back to 1893 was good to see. Interesting to learn about the 'terroirs'. Tour lasted about 1hr10 mins. Followed by tasting of two different wines they make (1 good, 1 exceptional). 20€ for the 1hr30 experience. Worth doing - just ring them directly! Nice little shop, too.

Bordeaux industrialist Henri Frugès commissioned the visionary architect Charles-Edouard Le Corbusier, to create this unconventional neighbourhood. 50 houses were built in 1926, and restored in the 1970s. This brought out renewed respect for the buildings, which are now listed and protected in a national heritage zone (Protection du Patrimoine Architectural Urbain et Paysager).

Whilst I am not sure Corbusier's talent matched his fame this is well worth a visit. The opening times varied between web sites so check in advance, but basically it seems to be open Tuesday-Sunday but closed for lunch. Quite a long journey by tram and bus but through enjoyable Bordeaux suburbs.
No tour was available when I visited but I was presented with a lovely and detailed book free of charge. The house is small and looking round only takes a few minutes but I enjoyed wandering around the rest of the site noting houses of differing styles and diverse states of repair.
Unité d'Habitation in Marseille is much bigger and the common areas have unrestricted access. The rooftop is a highlight with wonderful views over the city.

We opted for a day at the zoo as the photos their African safari section looked pretty realistic in their tourist information advert. We went by tram to Pessac (which was easy) but then had to wait nearly an hour for a bus that passed the zoo as we had just missed one. The bus journey was about 40 mins, the zoo bus stop was at a crossroads. There were no signs at all. It was a rural road and the zoo should have been 900 metres away but it wasn't sign posted to go right when passing a car forecourt so we ended up wandering around all forested roads for ages until we flagged down a passing motorist who gave us the proper directions. Apparently local people take down the signs. We spent far longer getting there and back than we did going round the zoo itself! The zoo desk staff were not at all sympathetic to all the problems caused by coming by public transport and getting lost! I would not recommend unless you have a car. The zoo itself was mixed, some nice open enclosures and others which need urgent renovations. Wolves, a panther, two white tigers and several cheetahs. The african safari style enclosure for giraffes and zebras was indeed their best.

The Bourgailh site is a forest of 65 hectares, the green lung near Bordeaux. The walk will get you among oaks, pines and heather. You can also visit a greenhouse with tropical plants and themed Gardens weekend during the season from April to sept. Ludic and educational activities around the environmental theme will be also available.

Step outside your door, go for a walk and discover a pleasant but manicured nature park. The observation tower is worth a climb in this otherwise very flat region.

If you are a wine lover both chateaus are great - Haut Brion and La Mission Haut Brion. Interesting tour.

Mon mari y va très régulièrement et j'ai découvert l'endroit moi même en accompagnant mon fils à tournoi de foot en salle. L'endroit est très bien, nombreux terrains, très propre, personnel jeune, dynamique et super sympa. L'accès aux terrains est peu chauffé, mais il y a un petit coin restauration rapide avec petites tables et banquettes qui lui l'est d'avantage.
Tournoi très bien organisé.

My husband and I visited Chateau Haut Bailey last week.I called up the winery because I had read good reviews about the red wine from Chateau Haut Bailly and we were not disappointed .I called earlier and booked a tasting and Estelle was very accommodating of the time.I was initially apprehensive about doing a wine tour, as neither my husband or I spoke much French but Estelle assured us this would be okay.We arrived at the most picturesque winery I have ever been to and it helped that the weather cleared up for an hour so we could enjoy walking through the vineyards too.Estelle gave us a very detail rich tour about the wine in the Bordeaux region as well as the wine from Haute Bailly. She gave us a tour through the vineyards, through their machinery and we tasted 2beautiful red wines.I was surprised at how much knowledgeable Estelle was about the ins and outs of the wine making process and even made us laugh with a few funny stories.We had a great time, many thanks
